k so

my grandpa has comcast cable/phone/internet

the box comcast gave him does not have the wireless int option or anything ( if it makes sense ?) so i was told to get a router....

and i did

Linksys wireless -G broadband router

model wrt54g2 /if it matters/

the problem is

the main comp /desktop/ has normal fast internet

but me /laptop/ /wireless int/ the speed is super slow

is there any way to fix this or do i have to suck it and deal with it

.-. halp?

Go into router settings and change the channel you are broadcasting on to something else (I think there are 9 options..just pick a number a few notches away from your current setting). Some channels get interference from other electronic devices in the house which degrades the signal.

I also suggest you download the newest drivers for your laptop's wireless card. Google the model number of your laptop and find them from the manufacturer's website. That usually helps.

make sure ur network is locked, i have the same router and initially it comes open so you have neighbors and connecting using up ur bandwidth. this one time i reset my router and got like 3 diff devices connect to my router.
other than that, follow the steps cap gave ya altho ive never had a problem with wireless speeds.

Point your browser 192.168.1.1 and enter the username / pass. On a Linksys it's usually admin/password or admin/admin or admin with no password.

im using firmware 1.0.03

did you already connect to your router?
via 192.168.1.1
if so,
you lock it under the wireless tab, have 'Wi-Fi Protected Setup' ticked. set up your password under 'wireless security'

Google is your friend btw :p

Check out the user guide.

Just fyi, because you're on cable your bandwidth will fluctuate depending on the time of day and where you live. i.e. faster between 10p-6am and slower during the day.
