I know this is boring for you all which is why in the last 2 threads I only got one recommendation, but I'm gonna wind up randomly picking songs I feel are weak and not being confident about running this study when it starts on March 29th.
Its testing for the mediated influences of musical key on mood. Sure its been done before but I'm measuring things studies haven't tested before and directly exposing participants to music (which believe it or not has rarely been done, in the first 15 studies I used not a single 1 had directly exposed subjects to actual minor/major music but all used self report and measures like the PANAS which are highly criticized)
Anyway I NEED to finish the mixtape tonight
For minor & major I'm using 3 of each but I'm looking for songs that have very present/obvious moods along with the key. Like Adagio For Strings I consider a "strong" manipulation.
But I'm not even sure if these songs are all major/minor to begin. If anyone has an ear for this stuff I'd really appreciate it.
For minor so far I have: (all tracks can't have vocals)
Adagio For Strings
Fort Minor - Whered You Go (instrumental version)
Crash Soundtrack - Sense of Touch (which will be mixed so the vocals are not used in the final mix cd)
For major I have no idea what to use:
I want to use Aphex Twin - Flim but I'm not even sure if its major, I dont know it has a very powerful happy/upbeat feel to it though.
I was even thinking about using instrumentals from Bob Marleys - Don't Worry Be Happy and maybe even Its Gonna be a Bright Sunshiney Day.
But I'm having more of an issue now picking strong major tracks. If you can think of maybe one song you go to that makes you happy all the time I can look for an instrumental version and see if it has an obvious strong enough mood to it. Anything you guys can do I'd really appreciate, I posted this once before here and once in the COR and I gotta finish this tape tonight! I'd really appreciate any help I can get even when I hear an obviously happy or sad song I can't just assume they're either major or minor, so it would really help a lot. Can be any style just no vocals (chances are theres an instrumental version for it though on youtube) |

Wow never heard of it before, but that "analyze song" feature looks like it could be real useful and it does have a screen shot showing that it can apparently tell you the key of a song, its going through right now if this works I will be so friggn happy.
I had a list of about 15 other songs I was curious about but they were more complex movie themes and classical pieces from youtube, so this will be perfect if it works. Wish I knew about it a few weeks ago now thanks! Will def be up all night now checking keys.. |

Nah the torrent is effed it seems for all of them. The serial numbers for Mixed in Key are validated everytime a request is made for a song, so if the serial doesn't work (which none do) it only returns you the bpm and not the key.
I might just start throwing out random songs and see if anyone knows because maybe its a favorite of theirs of something, its getting too late and I'm not making any progress lol |

| ok fvck it I'm going with all classical as most just have the key in the name, plus theres so much good classical to work with anyway just found Pachelbel Canon which is a song I've always loved, (never knew the name till now) will be perfect for the major condition. Thanks! This topic can die now. |

Of course it works, thousands of DJs use this every day and it's endorsed by nearly every major DJ in the industry. I've been using it for years. It's got tons of useful features like renaming the track with the key - bpm, writing ID tags with the tempo and key information and setting the Traktor InitialKey tag so Traktor recognizes the key.

Why don't you just buy it? It's not like its expensive or anything and its probably one of the more useful tools you can have if you DJ. |

I didn't check how much it was, I figured it would be around 100-200 and I only need it for one night so I more or less was in a rush.
I haven't heard of it till now but either way I may have to go back and actually read what its features are, thanks! I'm not a cheap bastard I do crack programs but I have no problems buying things I use all the time. |

| I think it's like $60. Honestly, it's money well spent. |
