Using Garageband while i save for Logic

The short of the long story is i may have to use just Garageband on my new imac for a while while i save for Logic Studio. So far i'm finding Garageband more able to do what i want than i thought it would but still have my eye set on Logic as i have been a dedicated Logic using since 1993 (using Logic 5.5 on a PC)
So hear is my new dilemma...i hope i can explain what i'm trying to do.
All i wanna do, is save an existing factory preset that i like in some of my favourite external plugins that i have running in garageband (at the moment its Albino 3). I have the synth up and running and sounding great but as i plow through (the very extensive) preset menu, i find there are many different presets i already like that i want to rememeber are there for future reference. In the past, in Logic 5.5, it would be as easy as selecting 'Save As' in the drop down menu and then selecting anywhere (that was good for me) on the computer to save that preset for finding and using at a later time. Usually i would create a new folder within each plugin's settings folder called My Favourite "Current Plugin" Presets. Within that folder would be folders of what the presets were (eg pads, synths, percussion, sequence sounds, fx etc etc). I suppose what this in actual fact did, was the create a shortcut from that folder to the desired preset. It meant when i was looking for a certain sound (say a synth lead sound) i could browse through the presets that i had already discovered as favourite ones and so i didn't need to preview again the ones i didn't like)
So how do i do this on the mac? It doesn't seem to use the same method, or anything quite like it that i can work out. Google hasn't proved to be any help yet. I really want to save some of favourite settings as there are some insanely mad presets already there that i could tweak and around with. My biggest concern too is that it these plugin setting favourites need to be somewhere that Logic Studio can also easily find to utilise the presets from those plugins as well without any confusion. |
