Angelique Cadoret (Soonight) : Hello guys ! Who are W&W ? What is the origin of the name ?
W&W : Hello. We are Willem van Hanegem and Wardt van der Harst, both 21 years old and we live in The Netherlands. And if you combine the first letters of our names "Willem & Wardt" you get "W&W", so that's where it originates from !
Angelique Cadoret (Soonight) : Describe your dj and production style.
W&W : "Big Room" trance with a techy edge, as long as it's danceable !
Angelique Cadoret (Soonight) : Can you outline some of the labels and tracks that have inspired you over the years ?
W&W : We always loved the stuff from Armada Music ! Tracks like M.I.K.E. - Massive Motion, the Sander van Doorn mix of Control Freak and the Remy & Roland Klinkenberg remix for Eye Wall - Bad Deal have always been in the list of our favorite tunes ! Tracks that also inspired us were the Trance Energy Anthems, we love the big room feeling and power in those tracks.
Angelique Cadoret (Soonight) : Since first rising onto the scene, how would you say your style progressed over the last years ?
W&W : Our style has definitely become more mature. We put a lot more effort in our tracks than before, there are a lot more details in the tunes, more edits and things going on...
Angelique Cadoret (Soonight) : What was your first club experience ?
Willem : My first clubnight was on a boat, called the Ocean Diva where Armada had their labelnight during the Amsterdam Dance Event in 2005 !
Wardt : That must be the Spock in my hometown Breda ! That is also the club where Tiësto started deejaying back in the days, it always had a special atmosphere !
Angelique Cadoret (Soonight) : Do you prefer to play a club or a festival ?
W&W : Festivals, definitely ! Our sound fits better to a big stage with a lot of people ! That doesn't mean we don't like clubs by the way. Clubs can be very intimate and you can really feel the energy of the crowd !
Angelique Cadoret (Soonight) : You will play for Trance Energy. How exciting is that ?!
W&W : Very exciting of course ! Trance Energy is the most prestigious event in the world when it comes to trance music, so it's a huge honour to be part of it !
Angelique Cadoret (Soonight) : What is your most favorite tool to use in the studio ?
W&W : Well of course our computer is very important, including all our softwares ! Besides that, we use our Acces Virus TI a lot.
Angelique Cadoret (Soonight) : Have you tested the CDJ-2000 ?
W&W : Not yet, we are very curious about it though.
Angelique Cadoret (Soonight) : How has technology revolutionized your music ?
W&W : Well, it's thanks to technology that we make music right now ! Cause nowadays you only need a computer with producing software to make music. It's more important than ever before!
Angelique Cadoret (Soonight) : In your opinion, is it of greater value to have 1,000 people download your track at Beatport or other download shops, or to have 100,000 people get it for free illegaly ?
W&W : Last option for us ! If your music gets introduced to 100.000 people, it's a very good way to make people aware of your music. We make music to share. We think the majority of the people doesn't buy music anymore. It's sad but true.
Angelique Cadoret (Soonight) : Do you think that download is the best way to promote music nowadays ?
W&W : Internet in general is the biggest way of promotion now ! Not only downloading but also sites like Facebook and Twitter are extremely important !
Angelique Cadoret (Soonight) : Which DJ's and Producers, should we look out for ?
W&W : Jonas Stenberg is doing a really good job at the moment ! He has a great sound that's really banging as well ! Also M6 aka Mark Sixma and Ben Gold are on fire !
Angelique Cadoret (Soonight) : What are your top five tracks ?
W&W :
01. James Horner & Leona Lewis - I See You (Cosmic Gate Remix) [Atlantic]
02. Rafaël Frost - Flashback [Flashover]
03. Sander van Doorn - Renegade (W&W Remix) [Cd-R]
04. Gavynn Mitchell - Panzer (Ruben de Ronde Remix) [Vaccine]
05. Storm - Storm (Mark Sherry & Dr Willis Remix) [Armada]
Angelique Cadoret (Soonight) : What are you other plans for the coming months ?
W&W : First up is the release of our collaboration with Jonas Stenberg called Alligator house, which comes with an amazing uplifting mix from Bjorn Akesson. We've got major gigs coming up like Trance Energy and A State Of Trance 450 ! After that we got a lot of new music coming up, and a lot of gigs this summer, so we're pretty busy !
Angelique Cadoret (Soonight) : What's the new year's resolution of W&W ?
W&W : Bigger broader better!
Angelique Cadoret (Soonight) : Tell me about your passions outside of music.
W&W : We like to hang out with friends, play some games or watch our favourite serie "Entourage". Besides that we love to play sports like soccer.
Angelique Cadoret (Soonight) : Do you have message to all french clubbers ?
W&W : We would love to see you all at Trance Energy, and thanks for all the support over the last years !
