WestsideWax Presents WWWorkshop #1 - Basic Turntablism For Dance Music DJs

We're very pleased to announce our first specialty workshop for dance music DJs interested in learning the fundamentals of turntablism. Even basic scratch techniques can greatly enhance already energetic Techno, House, Electro and other DJ sets and with a little mastery are excellent tools to have in one's arsenal. Though the techniques for this workshop will be taught on turntables with standard vinyl, Serato and CD DJs with "vinyl-mode" players will also find the course content transfers over very readily to their medium of choice.

Due to our wanting each participating student to get as much hands-on time as possible, the class size for this event will be very limited. Preregistration is required, and first consideration will be given to students of WestsideWax - non-students will be put on a wait list and will be contacted should space become available.

When: Sunday April 11, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Where: WestsideWax DJ School, 1564A Bloor Street West

Maximum Number of Students: 4

Instructors: James Fisher (DJ Fish)

James Fisher is a Hip-Hop DJ and turntablist with 13 years experience behind the wheels of steel, with 10 years prior to that spent as a percussionist. His specialty is scratching and turntablist improvisation, working alongside live bands and multiple DJ ensembles. He worked the competitive circuit from 1999-2001, garnering multiple top 3 placements and was also an active member of renowned Toronto DJ crew Circle Research until 2003. He's performed alongside numerous international recording artists, DJ's and Hip-Hop icons including De La Soul, Masta Ace, Method Man, DJ Craze, A-Trak, Tha Alkaholiks, Kid Koala and DJ Q-Bert and has been a designated judge at both local and national DMC and ITF turntablist battles. Now taking time out from his busy schedule as a photographer, marketer and event planner to join us at WestsideWax, we're very pleased to have James on board to provide highly specialised instruction for this workshop.
