Is the Yousef that's blowing up recently the same one who used to spin lots of west coast house years back? From Liverpool I think, won the Bedroom DJ contest in Mixmag? Used to love his stuff but lost sight of him for a while.
I've also heard amazing things about Cox's set at Ultra this year. DLing it now. |
Yes it's the same guy. He is amazing at the moment and, much like you, I had lost sight of him but he's coming back with a vengance. When he started his Minimal/techno phase he was boring as all hell but he's back into house and he's rocking it. His set at Matter for the Nye is out of this world !
That dude needs to come to Mtl soon he's ing destroying things right now. His last few releases have been nothing short of extraordinary |

lol, you guys will complain about anything, just stay home. I'm not sure what kind of make believe world you live in but Carl Cox is still doing amazing. If you don't like that last set from WMC, not too sure what to tell you, maybe time to change music.
Amazing news, I've been wanting Carl Cox at a big event for years now, yea if this is true! |

people will always complain but it's actually a step in the right direction for Montreal's massives.
We've not had, from BEB, a decent "housy/techy" line-up in years ! Hopefully they can pair Cox with another tech-house dj and put the trance in the beginning of the night for once ! |

Krinker (or anyone else), have you got any links for decent Yousef sets? Can't find anything recent.
For extra credit, cite some examples of his recent production awesomeness to save me hours of Beatport abyss. I'll buy em, I just want to save a few hours looking for the good stuff.
I still listen to his mix called just "The Mix" from '02 (I think). Pure quality. |

Yousef's Come Home, released on Cocoon, is an amazing track, altough not representative of what he usually produces (his sound is more on a tech-house tip). Sasha recently remixed it and it should come out sooner than later...
Yousef is actually a fairly good producer nowadays. Was not a big fan of what he was releasing a couple of years back but ever since he released his debut album last year, he seems to have found his sound. He's also a solid dj who will throw house, techno and a bit of prog in the same set.
Would love to see him along Cox in a massive...or an after. |

Was anyone here at Connected 2000 when Carl Cox, Misstress Barbara and Christian Smith Totally Destroyed the Bell Center? It was absolute Insanity! First Massive ever at the Bell Center and definitely the best.
Good memories :) |

sorry, I disagree with this comment.
he was in toronto not too long ago and he absolutely destroyed the guv main room for 4+ hrs. Cox is a legend.
if this booking is true, ill be there!!
'5 yrs too late..' lol |

legend, your only as good as your last appearances, especially these days, legends can turn to being dull incredibly fast and then you leave the party feeling conned
so i checked that wmc set and its pretty intense, a bit old school even because its fast.. if its 3-4 hours of that it should be pretty rocking, minus armin |

Like I said
We'll have to live through Armin to have Cox
Hopefully the "filler" headliners will be good too and hopefully another tech-house headliner will be announced. |

Where did you get that info??? |
Someone who has given me reliable info in the past and is connected to some of the organisers. I feel confident that there is substantial validity. Otherwise, I'm not making myself look good on TA ! ;)
I've seen Coxy at Ultra last yr and he demolished the tent to pieces with relentless straight-up bangin' techno. I also heard from others as well about his gig at Guv (check out some youtube clips) from a few months ago, where he clearly delivered the goods. I've seen him on various occasions since 1998 (Industry T.O., Space Ibiza) and he's never disapointed me. The dude is a legend, and I don't use this term loosely. He did pioneer spinning on 3 decks simultaneously. I would cream my pants if Christian Smith is added on the bill - his Essential Mix that came out in 2010 is just brilliant. |
