Formating Windows XP (pg. 3)

see if you can locate another hard drive.
swap that one with the existing one..and set it to master(make the other on with XP as slave). Take a DOS bootdisk and boot up. once the booting sequence is done, type format d:\(d:\ being ur slave drive with XP on it)
its the easiest and cleanest way to get rid of XP. I find XP a pain in the ass to format in other ways |

why use a boot up disk when the win xp cd has the format and fdisk prorgrams on it? talk about making a easy task loads harder... |

| Good god, formatting with XP is so terribly simple. Set your bios to boot from cd first, then pop in the cd, then hit "any" key to start the process. From there on, if it asks you to either hit any key or wait (cant rmember the exact thing), dont hit any key, just wait... ;) |

I think that some computers are unable to boot from a cd. Thats why there is a Xp Floppy boot.. however its total .

not anymore really, with older cd drives it was a problem but with all the stuff from teh past 5 years it should work! |

| Windoze XP Has a Roll back mode, you can send the computer back in time, serious this is what i did when mt OS Screwed up, Reformatting sounds harsh. |

This is somewhat true to what I did a couple months ago. I have a Dell and didn't know what to so I called them up 24/7 and they helped wonderfully. I also just formatted my g/f dell the other day and did something completely different through the technical support. Anyways, the first step would be to change the boot option to CD, but I had to use a diagnostics and utilities CD that came with my PC and I had to go from there. From there I was able to partition, but from my XP cd, I couldn't. Of course I think this has to do with my PC being a DELL and all software is Dell oriented. So FOX, what you said it totally correct and should work. Windows XP for some reason doesn't allow you format through the C:\ prompt for some reason???
IF ANYONE HAS A DELL, CALL THEM, IT IS WORTH IT AND THEY ARE 24/7!

I just spent $2300 on a new Dell that runs like e right out of the box. I was on the phone with Dell tech support for 45 minutes last night, I got transferred three times before I finally got fed up and hung up while I was on hold. If I can't get this thing running right by this weekend, its gong straight back to dell and I'm going to build a computer. |

hit F8 before windows has a chance to boot. and go to 'boot logging'.
then you will be prompted to insert your 'windows xp' cd, and you
know the rest, this will fix the problem without having you to make
you format your hardrive making you lose all your precious mp3s. this
happened to me once when i was attacked by a virus known as.vbs
virus, which converted all my mp3's to .vbs files, and i thought i was
ed and was left with the ultimatum of having to format, and then
i discovered boot logging, and i was saved. i don't know what i would
have done if i lost all my precious trance mp3's. all the blood,
sweat, and tears wasted.... :whip: KEYWORD: BOOT LOGGING |
