| rather wait for the rest of them to get the i5/i7. i really don't see much of a point in dishing 2000+ on a laptop with i7, especially if you're using it for music/film. the screen is small, although it is mobile, but not as expandable as the pro's/imacs. they're just milking the out of impatient people |

Everyone I know with any MacBook, iBook, or Powerbook and any of the derivations of those models, still have and use them. I have seen as much as 7 years old laptop running. That does not happen with any other manufacturer. They are more expensive, yes. But overpriced? not at all.
Plus OSX has been (or is, I haven't tried Windows 7 so I can't speak to now) superior to Windows. |
I've seen laptops just as old from Dell, HP, Asus, Sony etc that still work too. What's your point? Stop with the strawman arguments.
I think it's time you try Win7. You'll probably change your mind. |

| Was passing by the apple store and was about to pick one up but decided that I should wait for a refresh with a bit more features/improvement at the end of the year |

seriously
as much as i love certain apple products, they are ING OVERPRICED. not everyone has the same luck as you tranceporter. i bought my macbook a few years ago, 2 or so years. my screen has lines running down it, obviously graphical issues. the entire product is not as great as you think it is, it really isn't. the reason a lot of people are mac based is because its the standard in the entertainment industry, most of the best apps are mac based or work best with the mac. no studio uses pro tools with a pc, and obviously no one uses final cut with a pc because it's just not there
mac isn't that amazing, it has its flaws (this coming from a person that owns 2 macs). sure it's great to run mac only programs like logic or final cut, but it's the same as a pc, sometimes s up for no reason, and s up if you don't take care of it. steve jobs didn't invent the eternal personal computer. also, lewlll at you thinking that doesn't happen with any other manufacturer. my father owns a 10 year old laptop and it still runs great for his needs. why? because he takes care of it. it also runs windows xp |

this
I used to have a fully loaded Macbook pro (provided by my company) which was total overkill for my web browsing and basic media use. I ended up selling it a few months back, but since then have began to play with music production and I miss the macbook. Macs are beautiful and all, but if you get it just to be a cool hipster then you sir fail.
my brother still uses my cheap 5+ year old Dell laptop that is working without a hitch. While on the other hand my father owns an expensive Vaio and he ended up killing it within 4-6 months. Sony replaced it but he still had some problems with it. (and why the do some of their older higher end laptops not have a Mute button?) |

| All laptops suck. Therefore, you shouldn't be investing much in one. |

You talkin a regular Macbook or MacBook Pro? Back 2-3 years ago there was a real gap in quality between the two. Not nearly as noticeable anymore in messing around with the newer ones.
My Pro from about 3 years ago is going strong with no problems, but other fellow law students that bought the regular white Macbooks have had issues like you mention. |

regular macbook. funny thing is i treated it with so much respect, off every night, proper shut down, completely stock minus adium for messaging. for some reason, it started getting lines. first one line, now it's up to 6 various colored lines. just sucks because i spent like a summers savings on it at the time :( |

Yup, it's the damn regular Macbooks that are faulty. My sister has one of those and even though she takes good care of it, it's falling apart. The white plastic scratches very easily and very noticeably, her screen begins to flicker for no apparent reason whenever she plugs in the Magsafe, and the borders that join the bottom cover with the keyboard plate cracked in several places. |

That's the thing, people get caught up in all this talk about manufacturers and what OS it is and so on to rationalise why something is broken. The fact of the matter is that hardware breaks and can be made faulty, regardless of whether it's a Mac or PC.
We've got a brand new Sony Bravia that's already got a line down the screen. You get duds, it happens. Buying a Mac or anything else won't really reduce the chance of something stuffing up. |

That's ludicrous. Are you suggesting that you have the exact same chance of having a Philips DVD Player get ed than a JWIN?
Different brands buy their parts from different manufacturers and some are better than others. Some are ridiculously better than others, actually. |
