i saw some kid go face first into road pavement on hollywood blvd on thursday. no shirt on, raybans, lime green shorts that cut off really high. he tries doing one of those things where you brake/slide on pavement and i guess there was a chunk of road missing and just nails the ing road face first
that happens a lot due to people doing tricks on that same slab of concrete over and over. To bad you didn't have your camera phone ready :(

I agree but then they started making all boards skinny and that gave Mullen an edge above everyone else because he was already used to that style of board...go into any skate shop and you don't see boards like that for sell anymore and if you do they are worth alot..if you have one ... eBay the sh*t out of it.:D

Longboarding is very popular at my school right now, moreso than skateboarding.
I used to skateboard all the time in middle school but then I stopped doing it, for a couple reasons:
1) I could never do a ing kickflip...I must have spent the entire summer one year trying to figure it out, and I never got it. I can't tell you how many videos I watched, tips from people I got, etc...I would always land with only one foot on the board.
2) There were never any skateparks in my area until a few years ago, so skating the same curbs and other boring got dull quickly.
I still have my old skateboard, and there is a decent free park 10 minutes from my house now, but I've learned all that I can there without getting hurt.
I can't drop into a quarterpipe. I can't grind any surface. I can't ollie over anything or off anything. And I'm afraid to learn any of those things, because I don't feel like breaking my wrist or ankle trying to do so. I know part of skateboarding is getting injured, but it's easier to nurse a broken bone when you're in high school and all you have to do is sit in a desk for 8 hours a day listening to some math teacher ramble...and not work a full time job or commute.
Skating culture is not what it used to be either. Ten years ago it wasn't so much about how you looked, but today every kid is trying to conform into some image that's a cross between a Hollister prep and emo kid. And a lot of them smoke weed too (gay).
I still enjoy the music (MxPx, Millencolin, Pulley), and I'm playing Skate 2 on Xbox 360 right now. But I don't have the patience anymore to get back into skating full time.

I used to agressive inline skate. Got no love from the skateboarders, they called me fruit boots. I got pretty good though, was sponsered by some local shops and placed well in some comps. I don't think anyone blades anymore now.
Same, although my friends got sponsored, I never did. It was fun to go out with them on Sat. and tool around.

I'm pretty sure Rodney Mullen is responsible for the modern skateboard's design (just a bigger and symmetrical version of a freestyle board).
Mullen is my all time favorite skater, but Owen Wilson is up there too:
Can't wait to go skating again tomorrow. This is my deck; I switched over to 8" last year from some 7.x" pinner board:

When I ride I ride 8" also...sometimes I can get away with 7.75"
