Jake Benson - "Blue Light" [lush progressive house]
View this Thread in Original format

I haven't made music in months and get getting progressively moody. I made this within 4 hours earlier today and feel much better. I just need to figure out whether the song is good enough...what do you think? Ehhhhh does it sound too DeadMau5?

I apologize in advance...no matter what audio format and quality I try to upload to YouTube, it still manages to get scrambled into a worse quality.

very nice jakey poo! <3 gonna be coming back to this one a lot ;p

Thanks msz. I've formated it already from this version to make it more DJ mix friendly and it's over 7 minutes now =)

Top quality man.

Love it.

I assume most of that lead is all about the chords used? Never the less, what sort of waveforms and processing are you using on that?

Really good work.

Very nice sound with really easy going rhythm man - just finish this track. Has some nice grooving melody and is easy for your soul.

Great work man - well done.

Cheers

Two! Two excellent offerings, tonight, in a row. Really well done, on this one. Very pretty.

Decent chords and piano. It's fairly simple to get this kind of Mau5 sound going and is all about chord choice and percussion really.

The chords work well but the perscussion isn't really there yet imo.

It's most definately worth persevering with though as long as you don't do a video and get nekked again.

I really enjoy listening to your track. Very smooth and easy going. Percussion (as mentioned before) is not quite there yet..

Looking forward to the final track!

Yeah I noticed some of the percussion was a little crappy for me and will have to edit it. Is the kick ok though? Also, it may be YouTube's fault...it sounds like every song I upload it spews back out at 60-90kpbs, loosing a lot of high-frequency quality. The version on my computer is so much better than what you're hearing on YouTube.

No I will not make a nekkid video with this. I'm going to use "Jake Benson" to make obnoxious comedy pop dance music videos and then actually use a DIFFERENT (less pompous) name to release tracks like "Blue Light." So when someone's trying to search for something relaxing progressive house they don't end up finding loud tranny techno. hahahahaah

Do you mean what instruments? I'm a little technically-speaking retarded here. I use Logic Studio 8. The main chord is actually from Logic's own plug-in ESX24, the supporting sounds are all Omnisphere plug-ins, and the bass is from the Bass Station plug-in.

The kick sounds fine to me, although as you've mentioned Youtube bends the render over and invades it roughly. Why not use Soundcloud?

Anyhoo

The percussion you have is far from crappy, it's just at bread and butter stage still. And seeing as we were comparing to mau5 (and what's wrong with that I say) i've noticed with his stuff there's a lot of clever placement both in terms of groove and stereo field that you'd not necessarily notice unless it wasn't there.

I cna't stand people that use odd artist names btw

yours sincerely
