Washington DC Clubs Nearly Empty (pg. 3)

As for DC not being able to fill out clubs. I don't think it's just DC. Economy has to do with it a little, but mainly, there aren't any new artist that grabs your attention.

If you look at the history, there always were new genre that popped up and took the scene by storm. Such as acid house, big beat, prog house, trance, electro.

I still remember the chill i got when I frist heard one of those classic EDM songs. I just don't get that feeling anymore. I'm sure something will pop up and get the attention of the clubbers and we'll be clubbing like hell once again.

Because I want to see Menno, if I go to the festival I will get less Menno time and I feel shortchanged since I saw him at EZ and ASOT but only for very quick sets. I want something lengthy :p

when glow left for ibiza fur started doing their global saturdays and were getting dj's that glow wouldnt touch. i saw john o callghan, the thrillseekers, mark norman, cor fijneman,Ronski Speed,talla2xlc,sean tyas, and a bunch of others.

that was the first time in a long time i was coming out almost weekly.the crowds weren't mind blowing, but i felt they were getting there and plus at that time ibiza was the newest thing so of course pulling in that "im only here to be seen" crowd was that much harder.

then ibiza went through their "problems" and glow moved back to fur.i kinda thought the guys who ran global saturdays would switch over to ibiza but it never happened.but i have a feeling though that your going to start seeing dj's like this and other trancier dj's around dc soon;)

yeah those were good times! majai was behind the bookings. the goal was to build the scene and to bring djs glow would never touch. now glow is bringing some of them but not all. some of the djs global brought were thrillseekers, gareth emery, cosmic gate, atb twice, sean tyas twice, joc, kyau & albert, blank&jones, robbie rivera, steve smooth, darude, lange, jj flores etc.... and some up and comers like jennifer rene, mike foyle, dj eco, victor dinaire, zack roth, andrew parsons, zoltar, kristina sky, tim grube, noel sanger, etc...and live acts, fragma, jan johnston, nadia ali, jes.
its unfortunate the global didnt continue at another venue ibiza nightclub, but ibiza wanted to go a different route and thought that they could compete on their own but they failed and are mainly just hip hop.
now its just glow in dc and to add the economy and scene in general is not like it used to be in terms of turn outs. of course it will be packed at top 10 dj events but not other djs at the moment.

You see, this is a topic me and Ravi talk about all the time. There needs to be a D.C. equivalent to NYC's Love. Or at least some club night here that will get the DJs that Glow are "too sophisticated" to book. Honestly, this is the nations capital there is plenty of room for getting lesser known names like the ones above. If it could be done in the past, there definitely can and should be a new promoter that throws events just like the ones MAJAI did.

It's just personal preference, but I would like to see some more trance names, instead of just Prydz one weekend, Rivera the next, and then Armin. Cuz it's the same thing year round. Sure, sometimes I'm in the mood for 130 BPM. But my allegiance lies with the DJs who aren't afraid to go 140+ BPM. And yeh yeh, I know that D.C. is more of a housey scene. But it wont evolve and expand unless someone actually goes out and gives it a shot. Some promoter has to have the balls to be like "Okay, so lets try to get Mark Sherry". That is the kinda stuff I would really like to see.

This is why Global/MAJAI needs to find another venue ASAP...and it needs to be a smaller venue just like Love. Won't work at MUSE probably since mmlife and District Ignition throw their parties there. Maybe U Street Music Hall? Shadow Room? Even though the turnout was not good at all for the majority of their events, it was awesome to see Global/MAJAI bring in djs that Glow would never book....Thrillseekers, Kyau & Albert, Lange, etc etc. I can see why Glow wouldnt book them tho..especially at FUR where the main room is 10x bigger than Pacha's..turnout just wouldn't be there. I'm sure Global lost a lot of money bringing those djs in since turnout was way below average. I saw pics of when Kyau and Albert came to FUR a few yrs ago...mann i felt bad for them. Looks like only 100 people showed up.

The issue is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$... Try dropping $2000-3000 of your own cash on some of these European DJs for a party you're not sure people will go to. Plenty of New York promoters, including myself, find out the hard way that "ballsy" bookings aren't too much fun. That's why I quit doing it 2 years ago, lost a couple thou-...
