Mastering on cans...

It's suggested that people not mix on cans, but people do it anyways. How about mastering on them? Do people generally avoid it?

What are your guys' overall thoughts on this? Will mastering on cans just destroy your song? Is it something you should never do? Even tiny adjustments to compression and EQing that won't make major changes to the master? I listen to these pop songs that are so smushed seems like I can do a better job by not even using cans or speakers and just looking at an analyzer...

I do. But generally just to make sure that I'm hearing the same mix on my speakers as I do my phones. There's been a lot of times when I'll think I've got a good mix coming out of my speakers but the headphones will reveal some inconsistencies. I'll switch, back and fourth, to get it balanced appropriately.

If you're looking at doing a lot of work on cans, check out the SPL Phonitor

I looked at the Phonitor, and found that there is plugins that can do the same, I use a plugin that is called Canz3d on OSX it has crossfead and can do more then the Phonitor,

What do think about it?
I think it's great, my mixing sounds better with this plugin then without it(when i listend to the track in speakers) but, I don't see me do the final finnshing or mastring with my HD650,

its perfect for late nights when you don't want to disturb your
neighbors
