Well wouldn't there be muggings in any major city???

And is DC still the murder Capitol of America???

I mean, what's the surprise in someone getting robbed?

DC is no longer murder capitol by far. Drastic improvements are being made due to the ever-expanding role of the Federal gov't. Take a look at the crime stats:

Yes stuff still happens like this but it is the exception rather than the rule now. I lived at 1st and N st NW 2002-2003 and it wasn't pretty back then. Went back for the first time in six years last summer and there is now a coffe shop and Florida and 1st st nw and people on laptops. Many of the row homes were being remodeled whereas in 2002 our home was among the first being fixed up after 30 years of decline.

The real problem with DC now is that it has gotten horribly expensive the last 10 years. There are a lot of very poor people slowly being dislocated by very wealthy yuppy government bureaucrats, with virtually no middle class. DC is multicultural but at the same time it lacks socioeconomic diversity. There is an element of conservatism (such as the dress) which bothers me. It is a small city of 580,000 and doesn't have the feel or some of the intangible benefits of a large city.

omfg i love you all. and miss you all. yeah, moved here after getting married last year. been really low-key, no time for procrastination :( man i miss the good ol days.

I'm doing my MBA at the University of Maryland, which is big on Finance. Not sure where I'll go after graduating in 2011, but I do miss Toronto.

I'm gonna be back home in TO on Apr. 29 to sell the car (hopefully, if everything works out) and I'll be back in DC on May 3. Maybe a good ol' fashioned show on Saturday, May 1?
