Comb filters can self oscillate right?
I think :conf:
Anyhoo, they're good for bells and such. |

| Is it wrong that I have no idea what you mean when you say "self-oscillating filter"? |

| Self-oscillating filter means that the resonance is set so high that the filter will produce a tone on its own, without any help from normal VCOs. The tone's pitch depends on the filter cutoff. |

| any EQ can self oscillate, you're basically feeding back a signal into itself and the Q point if at a high enough frequency can act like a ring |

Not all instruments have self-oscillating filters. Many of the ones that do will only self-oscilate if you select the right filter type and press a key. All of them require the res to be (basically) turned up to max.
Filter self-oscillation is kind of a vintage-synth thing. Many of the instruments by Arturia can do it. It's not really something that's super desirable in most situations since the pitch is very difficult to control. It can be fun for FX but it's basically just producing a sine wave with missing harmonics. |
