Latency in Reason
View this Thread in Original format
Trancevision
I got an old Pentium Celeron with about 500Mhz and 192MB Ram.
I want to play notes with my QS300 Synth sending these notes to
Reason.
But the latency makes it impossible to play realtime, because it takes about half a second until
Reason reacts on my key at my Synth. :whip:

Do you know how can I improve latency ?

Does anyone have a faster computer doing the same like me and not having those problems ?

I'm only getting some latency..probably a fraction of second but i can still notice it.

my setup is an old p2 266 running on a 440fx chipset with 128 mb of edo ram...all this is on windows 2000 *have to swap constantly*:( using the midi interface from the ess soundcard i have

i'm planning to move over to a p2 433 on a 440bx with 192 mb of sdram running windows 2000, hopefully latency will be lower..
Ray_Finkle
stupid question but have you guys played around with the latency bar in the midi settings? lower it until you can hear pops and cracks then it is as low as your soundcard will allow
phasedout
Yeah, its a tad higher than where it would crack at.
Ray_Finkle
Then I'm assuming it is your computer. Once you upgrade, it should go away.
SOrry I can't help you any further...

Have you DLed new ASIO drivers?/have you tried ASIO?

I'm only throwing out possible suggestions/
Mr.Mystery
I should think that only by getting a better soundcard you should get a considerably lower latency...

Then again - I have no idea whether it actually works...

Its the soundcard that affects latency not the pc. I take it you have got a soundblaster? Do you know what kind?

A good soundcard will allow either asio or direct x drivers. ASIO is the most commonly used lowest latency drivers.
MekTek
yup lateency (as long as your not overloading your cpu and spiking) determines your latency. Sound blasters are, no offense of course, crap for music production. invest in another sound card to get better latency. until then, use the ASIO drivers for the SB live to get lower latency. :)
phasedout
Do they have the asio drivers for the soundblaster ensoniq pci?
MekTek
sorry bro, i don't think they have ASIO drivers for the ensoniq. i did a search on google n the SB site but couldn't find ASIO drivers for the ensoniq..it's their low end sound card, so i doubted they would have ASIO drivers for it, but i gave it a go anyways.

phasedout
ahh ok...thanks anyways man;)
phasedout
hmm, i just installed cubase sx and the computer with the ensoniq passed the asio driver test..wonder if that is real or not:conf:
