is there an OFFICIAL website listing all the sub-genres of trance with some description...

and don't tell me ishkur.com...that place sucks

or is it just highly opinionated you-pick-whatever-suites-you or you-pick-whatever-it-sounds-like type of categorization...

i've heard of so many: uplifting, hard, nrg, progressive, ambient, melodic, epic, anthem, acid, goa/psy, etc, etc,...but what do they all mean???

the reason i started this thread was to get more of a definitive description of sub-genres...

if i just ask the board, i think i will just get a lot of opinions with more discrepancy between people out there.

i don't want to label everything i listen to, and i know that this sort of thing is not that easy because there are only a few songs that are exact molds of their sub-genre.

but for instance, i heard someone use the term "synth-pop" to describe a song...is that trance, or is it too "pop" like that it's no longer considered trance? and is "synth pop" a made up term??? i also heard someone use "morning" trance...i just assume that someone made that term up to label songs that they listen to on the way home after a great night...but is that just another name for ambient or does morning trance really exist??? what about prog-trance...when is it too proggy to become prog-house...

sorry, rambling now...who knows, :conf: ok, if anyone can give me all sub-genres of trance that they know with a brief description i would be very thankful:D

i think "synth pop" is same thing as "euro-dance" ... never heard people use the term "synth pop" but it sounds like they are thinking of "euro-dance"(dj sammy - heaven is what i consider "euro-dance")

tech trance - stuff from max graham and timo mass
uplifting trance - i think this is most popular(ferry,johan..etc.)
progressive - i think most people(producers/dj's)fall under this genre
tiesto,armin.. etc...
well, i dont know how accurate my opinion is.... but these are just that... my opinion. =) hope i help atleast a little bit.

I personally wouldn't consider Tiesto progressive but hey, whatever genre you think it is... meh :)

Anyways, Somebody posted a link to a site that had a ton of info like detroit techno ect...
It was posted in another thread.
blazed it

Ray_Finkle
no it wasn't. trust me. Someone brought it up in a thread bashing ishkurs site. They were thorough write ups to.
