What the hell is going on in Brampton? Can someone fill in the details or opinions on the case. There seems to be a lot of bad blood between its members. Yesterday CBC pointed out in its news segment on how the temple worships and defends the terrorist who brought down Air India flight, and how there has been violent confrontation for the control of the temple as well.
And now this. These people are creating a very bad public image for their Sikh community.

A Brampton man has been sentenced to three years in prison after being found guilty of leading a violent home invasion on a Dundas family in retaliation for a longstanding dispute over money at the local Sikh temple.
Lakhbir Singh Khela, 39, who worked as a truck driver, was convicted at his trial in January of break and enter, assault with a weapon and mischief to property. The champion weightlifter was sentenced April 9 by Superior Court Justice Nick Borkovich to 36 months in a penitentiary.
The trial heard that five men stormed the Best Avenue home of Jasbir Singh Saini, one of five directors of the temple, at about 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 23, 2006.
Assistant Crown attorney Brian Adsett said the intruders smashed all the windows of three vehicles parked in the driveway, along with a bedroom window. Some of the men wielded Sikh ceremonial swords or curved daggers known as the kirpan.
Family members testified three of the men entered their home and shouted threats to kill them.
"Having somebody come into your house with weapons and destroy your belongings, including cars, can be very devastating. We did not have a car, a door on our house or any peace of mind after the intruders were through with their actions," Raman Kaur, the daughter of Jasbir Singh, told court.
Police initially charged two other men along with Khela, although he ended up standing trial alone. The Crown withdrew all charges against Tejpaul Singh Kaloe, 34, of Hamilton, for lack of evidence. The third accused, Surmukh Singh, 54, also of Hamilton, died in February last year when the tractor-trailer he was driving flipped over and crashed on a highway in Tennessee.
The trial heard the home invasion was believed related to a simmering feud over money among current and former members of the Gursikh Sangat Hamilton Temple on Old Guelph Road in Dundas.
One week prior, Lakhbir Singh Khela and Surmukh Singh had been charged with assaulting Jasbir Singh Saini and another man in an altercation at the temple. Those charges were later dismissed.
On the night of the home invasion, Raman Kaur said she stayed home while her family attended a birthday party in Brampton. Her parents and siblings returned at about 10:15 p.m. She was in the kitchen fixing something to eat when she heard a sudden, loud banging at the door.
Three men forced their way inside, one of whom wielded a sword and wore a blue head covering. The second man wore a beige shirt and orange turban and the third was about four metres away from her.
As part of the alibi he provided to police, Lakhbir Singh Khela said he was at Toronto's international airport picking up a load shipped from Montreal by his brother. He said he arrived at the airport at 6:45 p.m. and waited to unload until 7:30 p.m. He said he parked his truck at the Malton Sikh temple and volunteered to serve food to the people. He says he arrived at his family's home in Brampton at 11:05 p.m.
A security camera at the airport showed Khela there to pick up a load. The beige shirt and orange turban he wore matched the description given by Raman Kaur of a person who broke into her home.
The daughter said she and her family feared for their lives that night.
"My twin brothers were only 14 at the time and had trouble sleeping at night. They feared that someone was going to come inside the house and attack us." |

I'm Sikh and proud... and can't really say if i'm digusted in what's going on there (and here in Windsor too :rolleyes: ), or if I understand it all, or if I really care...
There are so many more elements and sides to everything, and like anythign else, a few rotten apples ruin the rest...
I find myself to be very conflicted at times with the power of religion and culture of various groups in Canada, being a proud Canadian while also being a proud member of a visibility minotiy with it's own ways and beliefs. Often times it's grey area for me.
It's money, corruption, and a skewed view of what way things "should" be, and things "should" be done... within every group or community there is it's own politics, segregation, and it's own left and right.
I choose not get involved... it's not my fight, it's not my deal, I get angry when a few idiots tarnish the name and ideals of my religion and the way it's presented...
I do what I feel I need to do, day to day to be a good Sikh and do my best to avoid the mess... |

Well, the Brampton Sikh temple case has been widely publicized, so police are now helping bring things to order by banning certain people from attending the services and assisting with bringing solution to their issues. For the better, perhaps? |

| Today's not a day for the community to bicker about it. Hopefully Toronto's 3rd biggest parade today will help unify a little bit. Happy Sikh New Year! |

sorry bud... you need to get a turban first before you call urself a sikh.... how can you be proud of something you have no clue about? non religious is the way to go... you should be proud to be non religious, not proud to be sikh..... if your proud to be sikh, wtf u doing in clubs? ur suppose to be at the gurdwara (sikh temple)... i wish you people can one day realize that you are pretending to be sikhs.... :whip: and you shaved ur beard.... god gave you that beard my frend |

A beard, a turban and a kirpan or whatever other "5 k's" you want to produce do not make you Sikh, hence the reason why I get frustrated from so much of this crap in the news...
I know people who have all that you mention, beard,turban, etc.. adn they run coke, in the hundreds of kilos, in thier trucks across the border each day. They have blood on thier hands 100% drug/crime related, but they have the turban you mention, the beard that you mention, and the go to the Gudwara that you claim to know about. They have a Kada on thier arm, a Khanda around thier neck...
Are they are Sikh and I am not?
I have read plenty of books on my reglion, when I was India I have visited numerous Gudwaras and learned from the priests and teachers there. I help out with our community here whenver I can, and I go to the Gudwara, I live across from mine actually. I go there during the week to help out the priests and people there...
So before you go running your mouth about what you do or do not know, and start to get frustrated about "you people" and so on... get your straight, before you speak.
And my beard is not shaven, friend... I have my beard albeit trimmed and groomed.

That's why those of the main middle-eastern faith are all over our party scene, because Alcohol is strictly forbidden, but just about any recreational drug is not ;)
Just bc ur proud, doesn't mean you can't party.
