Mixing at a strip club...

One of the local strip joints is looking for a DJ. I was thinking about applying to mix at the place.

I will need to make a new demo, since the current one (shameless plug: you can hear it here) just isn't going to work in this situation. I'm probably going to make a mix full of booty shaking Electro House, with some top40 remixes thrown in.

Have any of you guys played at a strip club before? Should I do anything special with my demo for this type of venue (it is kind of like a dance club...with ?) Ladies, would you grind on a pole to Electro or Jackin House?

A word of advice be ready for ANYTHING! Each girl is different and wants to hear different music. One girl may want to hear a house song, another likes hip hop, and another likes rock. This is the hardest challenge a DJ can have.

You may have to make a cute demo set but you wont be seamlessly mixing when you are in the gig.

The happier the girls are the more money you will make.

I would make a few 10-15 minute mini mixes of different genres and put it on a cd.

^^^^ Good advice right there

Strip Clubs (like weddings) are a whole different ballgame. It's definitely going to be more about what style each girl likes and then playing tracks that are both easy to dance to and familiar for the clientele. If I were you I'd start doing lots of 'research' and try to pay attention to the music as much as possible :D

As far as the demo I agree with MattDomestik. Make a top 40 mix that crosses rock, hip-hop and house. Oh and you have to put in the following - it's strip club law :p

ha, nice! good luck dude. could be a fun gig. :)

i heard "feel it in my bones" the other week at pink pony... couldn't believe it.

A stripper should be able to pick their dj (like a golfer and his caddy) once they've gained enough clout.

Which, if any of you were wondering, a stripper receives clout in a multitude of orifices and other unmentionable places.

Better be comfortable talking over a mic on a regular basis too...

get ready for requests, lots of them.

Some girls will have cds with them that's how specific they can be with their demands.

If you're in luck you will have slots for different short sets, but all this is very short, these so called sets lasting anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes maybe a little more.
It really depends on the club itself, some places it's one song per girl, others you create sets for time slots(as I just explained before) according to style of music or maybe some girls who are of a similar type will go together.

At the opposite of this some clubs may strictly be hip hop or rock for exemple not being open to other genres, it's impossible to put all these clubs in the same basket, different places different demands clientele etc.

This isn't a place to be creative in the strictest sense, don't forget you are working with a dancer who will need to know what she is going to hear or else it breaks the whole flow and could lead to unhappy customers.

The gig can be great fun, some girls can be real funny and great to get along with it is a really cool atmosphere with it's own set of pressures. Make the customer happy, get the most girls out there as possible, cash in cash in cash in.

"Hey baby, do you need a caddy tonight?"

Wow, this is a lot of great advice! I know this will be a different gig from doing a prom, which was way different from doing a top40 club, which was different from doing that radio show...

Thankfully the top40 club experiences will help with things like taking requests. I'm not very comfortable with a mic, so I will have to work on that.

IDK what style this club is going to want, or if they will want a variety.

Thanks for all of the help... I guess its time to do some 'research' :D

+1

you play a track then talk on the mic, "get those dollars out guys, welcome candy to the stage/cheer her on to take it off!", then play another track and repeat, you might play a couple tracks in between girls, and the girls will usually have their songs already picked out and will often give you a cd to play

i've had friends that djed at strip clubs, you don't do much mixing, just talking on the mic and pressing play, things could be different where you are though

With what will you get paid?

:p

Just wash your hands after touching the money! It was in someones crack just a moment ago.
