A few questions about bitcrushing

I have never used this properly but need to now so a couple of questions:
1. Are there any decent free plugins? (vst not au)
2. Do I need a plugin? Could I re-sample the audio at a low bitrate? Or bounce a very low Kbps mp3 of the audio I want bitcrushed to achieve the same/similar effect.
3. Does the 'low fi' effect on rob papen predator do the same as bitcrush? I'm at work so can't try it.

+1, it has a lot of plugins, most of which (or at least the ones I've used) are pretty good considering the fact that they are free. It even has a decent electric piano, iirc. |
