I am a little surprised by the low turn-out of this party. It is a monthly rather than a weekly, and it is the preparty of POP, one of the biggest massives in SF. POP itself is sold-out, and the party is free for POP ticket holders. Even POP is 16+, there still should be at least 5000 21+ folks because the ticket is pretty expensive. When you can't get more than 100 people out of those to check out the preparty, there must be something missing.
They only played trance music. It is a classic problem that trance sucks for opening. With the big variation of energy level, people couldn't stay on the dance floor for long. The relative inexperience of the DJs doesn't help the cause. They couldn't read the audience's mood and play the music accordingly.
This should be an easy fix, given Skills' vast connections. It should be easy enough for them to book a DJ that is good at opening. They can work out a deal with the venue to get some drink specials, so that folks have incentives to stay, allowing the party to grow. |
