It should be, it didn't go off. Where are you staying?

If you've been to NYC before and have done the tourist thing, I'd recommend you to stay away from the touristy areas like Times Square, Rockefeller Centre, Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, etc, especially at peak times. They are places to avoid at all times generally, the mobs of people walking at snail pace are incredibly annoying, and they are sites to only see once, after that it's just boring. If you are planning to go to the Empire State Building, you should go like at midnight, there is almost no people at all and the view is amazing at night. They close @ 1 am.

I was in Hell's kitchen last night and saw no sign of shut down, so I am assuming they only shut down the immediate areas of Times Square.

LOL one of my friends mothers called and was like "Get out of the rooftop party, there is a BOMB THREAT 5 blocks away!!!"

....she puts down phone, continues to drink, and casually tells us about the phone call nearly 30 minutes after she received it LOL.....whoops!

party>>>being scared (??) :conf:

I was in the city all day yesterday, and I even managed to forget there was a bomb scare the night before (when I walked past 42nd St.), everything seemed normal and everyone was out in full force... Good job by the city to not let any panic hit, or anything..

a bunch of fireworks and a couple cans of gasoline does not a bomb make...again the media blows this completely out of proportion

Actually I dont think it was blown out of proportion at all. The media was very good to say that had it gone off, it would have bene a minor explosion. Not to mention the lack of panic by the media, police, or the people.

However, the fact that someone even had a timer for something to go off in a highly populated area is enough cause for concern, regardless of the scale of severity. Concern and discussion do not equal panic. The public has the right to know whats going on, thus it being widely broadcasted.

A bomb went off on my street today in Philly, about 3 blocks from my apartment. I don't know if the cops detonated it or it went off on it's own, but there was an explosion that could be heard in the neighborhood.

Apparently, the bomb was part of a robbery plan nixed by this guy's saner housemates. The housemates put the bomb on the street and called the cops.

The story grabbed me because it was on my street & I was reading live online updates by my friend who lived near there. He was freaking out after he heard the explosion.

Another day in Philadelphia.

The story is here

ny times said if it had gone off many people would have been killed and buildings would have been badly damaged...but there wasn't enough power to make the buildings come down. fact...it was a planned explosion using a car as a means of delivery = a car bomb
