[Downtempo/chillout] "In Summertime" feat. Mia Valo
View this Thread in Original format

I'm working with a phenomenal new singer named Mia Valo and we've got several new original dance tracks in the works, but we decided to throw together a mellow cover of a song called "In Summertime" by Lift, a little-known and now defunct band from Atlanta. The original is from their 1997 album Lifelike.

Comments welcome, but this was really just sorta an excuse to finish something quickly over the weekend and we felt like doing something with a totally chilled out summer vibe. First song in the player [192kbps]

I was worry about you Dave for a while - but I was not disappointed at all with this latest track you produce. Nice warm atmo with amazing new vocal - great work guys, awesome chill track.

Cheers

Thanks Darek! No need to worry about me - I've just been pretty busy with work stuff and trying to get some songs together with Mia and Aliciya, so I've been staying off the forums.

Are you guys still planning on coming down to Elk Grove this month?

Damn this forum is at my end sooo slow to use - otherwise I'd feedback a lot more!

Awesome voice - truly outstanding.

Nice track you've worked there to.

You can make a massive dance / pop track with Mia I think.

+1

Nice track. Great voice. Not my thing and there was way too much verb on the snare for my taste but the melody and geeatarzing was lovely jubbly (a translation for our US chums - aaaarsome.)

Cool stuff Dave

Beayootiful track. You seem to have a niche with working with vocalists which is only developing. This is one of my favorite tracks, from you. Really a showcase for both you and the vocalists. Wonderful work!

Thanks for the listens, guys!

@Richard - yeah, this forum is incredibly bogged down. Mia and I have several songs in the work and, yeah, she has a great voice for dance music!

@Geoff - thanks for the loverly jubbly comments! :p As far as the snare reverb goes, it's funny you mention that because I cranked it up for a bit when I first created the drum patterns, then sorta forgot about it while I was focusing on other parts. But, when I realized later how much reverb there was, I tried turning it down, but I was so used to hearing it that it made the whole mix sound too clean. In other words, sorry, but I like it! :p ;)

@Eddie - thanks! Yeah, I definitely lucked out finding Mia. She is an absolute treasure! Between her and Aliciya, I've got more talent than I can keep up with, and they each have very different sounds/styles. Anyway, glad you liked it!

It's funny, the opening beat had me expecting something very different than the soft and melodic song that followed. The beginning reminded me vaguely of the start of this:

Cabaret Voltaire - "Sensoria"

But enough of my weird associations, hehe. Good songwriting and production here, cryo. :)

this is a great track Cryo ;) great new singer too!

Thanks for the listens!

@JBJ - that CV video takes me way back! Oh, and sorry but I can't take credit for the songwriting - it's a cover. :( :p But, thanks for the production compliment!

@Ben - thanks, man! Wait 'til you hear the first track we're working on - we've got the vocals tracked already and she sounds incredible!

Nice to see you back, Dave!

Very cool and laidback track. Actually, this is something I can really dig. You sure know how to pick out a good vocalist. I was thinking that this track had a 90's pop vibe going on, then I read that it was a cover and realised why :p

By any chance are you giving this away? I would love a copy. And, be sure to pass our compliments on to Mia :)
cryophonik
Thanks Owen! Hope all is well. I'll be sure to pass the compliments on to Mia, but she's probably lurking around here anyway.

Sure!

BTW, I should've mentioned the trance connection with this song. The original was written and sung by Molly Bancroft, who went on after Lift broke up (late 90s IIRC) to sing on several EDM tracks, most notably Gabriel and Dresden's "Tracking Treasure Down."
