Those 'Sci-Fi' sound samples Hawtin uses

Anyone know where he gets them from? Or where something similar can be found?

The only couple of examples I've got are from his Essential Mix, where he played a few over the top of a couple of tracks in short succession, but I've seen him use similar stuff when I've seen him live recently too.

Example 1 - http://www.sendspace.com/file/inl86d

Example 2 - http://www.sendspace.com/file/fc4o9v

Any ideas where I could find similar stuff? Can sound really effective sometimes.

I don't know what that means.

Look for riser or uplifter fx samples.
The Wave Alchemy SFX Collection has a lot of these or any other fx sample collection.

Thanks, I'll take a look at that after work.

Its pretty fail to use pre made effects IMO.

Thats half the fun of sound design IMO.

I think Mike is looking for samples that can be used in dj sets if I understood his questions right. ;)

Correct. I have neither the time, the desire, nor the talent to produce my own.

Its totally legit for DJs to use loops and effect samples IMO, its a pity they're marketed mainly to producers.

Hawtin uses Traktor/Live/Maschine - id guess the effect is coming from one of those. The 2 samples posted sound pretty much the same as regards to the modulation being in sync with the beat
Yeah maybe he does play samples over the top but wouldnt he need a ton of samples so that they fitted in with the track he was playing? Id say its more likely that he is sending the audio out to Live or something and its getting effected there and returned back to the mixer

DJs with loopitis is the last thing I want to hear.
