Crystal Castles - Celestica (Alcala Remix)

Hey guys, I've really been into the new Crystal Castles album and spent the last 2 weeks putting this remix together. I think it came out pretty good considering it was mostly made by sampling the original. It's a little messy towards the end but I think that fits the CC sound. I'm wondering if I should get this mastered? A friend has started a mastering company in Chicago. $40/song. Not a bad deal but debating if it's necessary. Anyway, all feedback is greatly appreciated :)

A weird little youtube video I together for it too :tongue3

Definitely a cool song. The video is definitely weird. I'd save my money for mastering a song I had all rights to, first, though. If you like that result, you might try it with this one. Most of the potential problems (which might just be creative decisions) were things that could be resolved in the mix-down. The vocal clips might need a little compression because some of their peaks were a little bright, in the mix. I also thought the bass-line could come up just a little - not more than a decibel or so.

Thanks for the tips and listening Eddie. I added a limiter to the cut up vocal parts and lowered some of the lower parts. I actually thought the bass was a little loud but not by much either :)

We worked out a deal where he'll master this for free and I'll pay him next time. I'll re-upload to soundcloud once he sends me back the final version.

I liked it quite a lot.

Hell ya man! Let me know how it goes down!

BTW, the soundcloud audio file was updated over the weekend to the mastered version. It's a little bit more defined and better EQ'd. Thanks again for the support :)

It's a nice track.
Personally not a big fan of the octave alternating bassline throughout the whole track, I usually favour those for climaxes in tracks rather than all the way.

In terms of mix I also find the bass might be a bit high in the mix but that might just be personal taste.

Over all a fantastic job and I like it a lot so thanks for sharing. The work with the vocal is excellent.
As said however, I wouldn't get this mastered unless the owner of the samples clears them.

cheers
Nem

Great mix dron3! I have sort of been steering away from prog/tech stuff lately but I really enjoyed this. All the tunes are solid all the way through.

Thanks Nemesis, very good feedback. I appreciate you taking the time :)
