OK, so I have a question about speaker wire

I recently purchased my TT's, mixer, and a bunch of records (headphones of course). Well, the only thing I was missing was some quality speakers. I finally have those now, but it leads me to a question.

The speakers are a pair of JBL S38II studio monitors. NIIICE speakers, so I want to be able to give them the best sound possible. Here's my question(s) though. I have a Numark mixer with all RCA outlets on the back, but the ports on the back of these speakers are for regular speaker wire, not RCA jacks. Can I still get RCA cable to run from the mixer to the speakers, and just have to cut off one of the ends on the wire going to each speaker, or am I going to have to be forced to get an amp where I can run RCA cable from my mixer, and then regular speaker wire from the amp to the speaker. Please tell me what I can do. Thank you so much in advance. :D

hmmm... I think you generally need an amp to power speakers.

Do I absolutely have to have an amp to do this, or could I technically find the pos/neg of the RCA and use that for now, until I can save up/do some research for an amp?

If you have a home theater receiver, you can use that. You need something to give those (very nice) speakers some juice.

ok, so I'm just gonna have to save up a little more. That's what I thought. Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate it a lot!!!! If anyone else has any input on this, I'd appreciate it

you can split the rca and find the pos/neg and hook it up to the speaker, but its gonna be sooooooooo quiet... even more so if your mixer has a ty preamp... so don't bother with that... just get a nice amp or hook it up to your home stereo

OK, so here's the deal. I live in an apartment complex, and there are times when I can shake the room if need be, but for the most part I don't have the need for the full power these things (JBL monitors) can put out.

SO, is there an amp that you can suggest I buy? I don't have a home stereo center (I rely on my computer, etc for mp3's, etc). I am looking for something cheap. I don't need any "save up to buy the (insert newest, best amp here)" responses. SOmething cheap that will give plenty of power to my speakers if need be. I know absolutely NOTHING about amps, so anything would be appreciated. Thanks

if you're looking for something cheap, but can go relatively loud, look at home stereo amps.. like at futureshop.

I got a kenwood amp there for $220 CND (on sale from 250) and it works fine and goes pretty loud.

Or just buy a reciever. That way you get your power but also, if you want to expand your entertainment system, you have room. If you buy an amp, in a few years that won't give you anything to base a home theatre system on.
