We caught Enemy Records label heard Dustin Zahn on his down time in preparation for his long-awaited New York debut at Love and got a chance to pick his brain about Ninja Turtles, Salt, Dubfire trying to kill him, and some other stuff...

Hey man.

Yo!

So it looks like New York is finally gonna have a chance to jam out to Dustin Zahn! What do you think separates NYC musically from the rest of the country?

I don't know. Truthfully, I can't say anything on the party front because I haven't been to too many there. From a music standpoint, I really like the classic NYC house and techno sound, it's pretty influential for me. These days, I don't really have a clue about what's going on there aside from Tony Rohr or Alexi Delano.

No sweat, you're in for a real treat! You've been gaining some serious momentum in the past year, what's your tour schedule like and what's been the coolest place you've been to as of now?

Well, all of May is a U.S. tour with an additional stop in Mexico. June and July is all European gigs, with some breaks in between to come home. I'm pretty happy with the momentum at the moment. It took a lot of time to build up. As far as the coolest place I have been to... that's kind of an open-ended question. Some countries/cities have ty parties but amazing food or people, etc. so it's hard to say one place overall is the best vibe. Berlin is cool because you can get away with playing whatever, but places like Barcelona are also amazing because the food and weather are great and the gigs are usually amazing. Although I gotta say, I can't wait to see what New York has to offer!

Right now I'm looking at a picture of you in front of an over-sized green plastic turtle. Tell us about that.

I was on vacation in Mexico a couple weeks ago. Sure enough... we came across Senor Frogs and I think its almost a right of passage to get a picture taken there. It's the 'zenith' of fat Americans invading Mexico! I didn't actually go in though. I ate at this restaurant that Dubfire recommended instead and the meal I choose was the worst ever! My girlfriend's was good.

Do you think Dubfire was trying to sabotage you so that you don't get to a point where you're stealing his thunder?

Haha no, I think I had too many drinks and convinced myself that traditional Mayan food was going to be the right choice!

Back to turtles... If you were a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, and could choose 3 other DJs as the rest of the turtles, who would they be?

Well that means I would have to live with them, so that would take some serious thought and Raphael was always moody, so I'd have to pick someone miserable for that role.

lol you sound like you have someone in mind?

haaah! A wise man keeps walking.

Whats your iPod playlist look like right now?

Let's have a look... [pause] It's pretty random, ranging from electronic to acoustic stuff, some 80s. New Order, Inxs, The Cure, Lou Reed, Velvet Underground, Luciano, new Deftones album (sucks), new Prins Thomas album, Scuba's new album, and Boston.

There is plenty more than that on there, but it's all the obvious stuff, Clash, Joy divsion, bla bla bla...
Oh and the new Dustin Zahn Electric Deluxe podcast, #1 in all the world, get it now on iTunes

No Justin Bieber though, what's up with that???

You heard he and Miley Cyrus are a thing now right?

No ?

Their publicists are gonna drive us all to drink very shortly. Getting tired of the Jesse James scandal anyway.

Sounds like a party! We'll keep a look out for that new Dustin / Miley collaboration.

Never say never! On a a side note, whats up with the potential ban of table salt in NYC?

Seems like they just don't know what to ban anymore... It's like a scene right out of the Kevin Bacon movie. Footloose?

ing table salt. Whatever. Trans Fat is understandable, but table salt? Ridiculous

People will do anything to keep the public's mind off important things.

YES! Like packs of stray wolves controlling the city and teens using chives for lubrication. Anyway...

I knew we were on the same page! Dustin, it's been a pleasure. Thank you for your time my man!

No problem looking forward to Thursday, May 20th @ Love! It's been a while since I was in NY...

Don't worry. We will have salt for your stay! ...Oh and sound system at Love is decent too.

Great! Thats the most important part. I will bring my 128kps MP3s. Going for high quality that night! We'll be starting off with some funkier stuff and working into my mental heavier side!

Perfect! Thanks again, see you next week!

Take care!
