Evening all
I dont post much on here but do keep an eye out... several times now ive seen posts for sites offering mastering (most recently ST mastering) and a couple of others offering freebies and silly cheap deals when blatently they've just got a PC and a cracked copy of "insert name of program here" :)...
So has anyone used any of these cheap deals and had respectable results?? O do you all master your own tracks?
Anyway I thought i'd offer my services once again.
Heres a 5 minute showcase.. consists of several tracks, with short clips of before and after. The original hasnt been touched or altered by me in anyway, the files are as i was sent. The second clip has been passed through some tasty stuff!! (see gear list!) So you can hear the difference between proper hardware and software!!
http://www.sendspace.com/file/sd1rv6. theres the link. any thoughts appreciated.
Abbreviated gear list
Quested HS3208 main monitors
Apogee AD conversion
passive volume control so signal path is nice and pure.
Universal Audio 2-1176 stereo compressor/limiter
Langevin Pultec EQs
Avalon valve EQ and compressor.
All sat in a lovely treated room
So if you like the sound of this drop me a message on here or add me on www.myspace.com/iainsanderson or email me on iainsanderson0504 at hotmail.com
I charge £25.00 per track. Discounts available for multiple tracks. (3 for £50 etc) Your welcome to a clip of the track before you pay and im happy to cater to any specific taste in music/style etc.
I'm perfectly capable of all the bullsh1t from the ST mastering post, just let me know what you want and its done :) |

This guy knows how to sell his stuff. I'd trust him before that other guy. I'm wondering if a services-for-sale sub-forum might be in order, though. |

Haha. Heres a man with a better attitude. Any credits signed to large labels that you'd like to tell us about though? Its ok if not, just a question I always ask.
So how do you find the 2-1176? I never thought it had the requisite control for mastering myself, although thats based only on software emulations. I always liked the API 2500 a lot more with the variable knee and thrust controls.
And if I remember right, wasn't the 1176 lacking in the ratio control department?? So I'm guessing your running it as a limiter since theres no way you'd be putting a 4:1 ratio on a master surely...? |

cheers for the comments chaps :)
the 1176 is THE best compressor ive used. i use the avalon compressor as a buss comp... small ratio and then use the gains to make sure not a massve amount of limiting is applied by 1176. ratios on it are 4,8,12,20 and all in. ive used the all in setting on some heavier style of music... hardstyle techno 155bpm kind of stuff and its sounds amazing!
I also use UAD plugins and have the 1176 emulation. its not as good! by quite some way. |

you might very well be extremely qualified but your presentation leaves much to be desired. My gut feeling tells me you are either lazy or just have bad taste and I wouldn't want someone armed with some nice toys and years of germinating bad taste to work on my track. I'm probably wrong and you probably don't care but your FYI reads like a ill crafted craigslist add. I would polish your presentation. A website would be a start. |

I don't think he's trying to run it as a full on business dude.
And most good mastering engineers don't bother with websites, they let their work speak for themselves. Its usually the poorer ones who spend all their time on presentation and very little on the actual music.
Good info anyway studiobob, always interesting to hear how others work. |

What no shadow hills? I'll pass :p
I jest - Nice setup - Proper monitors, great converters, eq's and limiters and comps. Now this is what I expect to see a project mastering studio offer and 25 quid really isn't bad.
Downloading the clips now to see how you are at using it all..... |
