That may be true, but Dubfire's set was fantastic. Calling Dubfire's set boring and the mashups great is ridiculous. |

People are out to the club to party. If the headline DJ couldn't get the crowd moving, you can't call his set great. Good management is able to get the party energy up before the headliner comes on. 1015 used to be able to do that consistently back in the days. You have to be sympathetic with the DJ when it doesn't matter what he does, the crowd still doesn't react in anyway. It was totally different for J. Philip the day before at Mezz; the crowd responded enthusiastically to whatever she did. The impression she gave was awesome to everybody.
This clubbing party business is not just about the DJ's skill set.

Each has their own taste though and more people liked Dubfire's set than disliked it then again theres more people who like AvB than J00F... I didn't stay for the whole set but how was Alland, Rooz and Taj playing mashups esp Alland!? What drugs were you on? Did you subconsciously wanted to hear mashups? :p The first hour that I was only able to catch was def full on techno/house. I'm sure there was a bit of electro in there. |

I don't want to argue about it. All my friends enjoyed it and so did I. All the people around seemed to be having a great time too. I've been around EM for a long time and know when I enjoy a show. Tech isn't going to drive the same response from the crowd as progressive will right? It's more reserved. I've never seen people going totally bananas at a tech/tech house party. |

Mashups is a polite term. The first track Taj played was pretty cool and nice transition from Dubfire. When he starts mixing in parts of Johnny Cash songs and other 'classics'/ tribal/electro, it totally brings me down. |

LOL Ha! So Dubfire, who is starting an international tour of 35+ cities including Ibiza with Carl Cox was boring, but the local mashups were great? |
He was so bad that I had to go upstairs to give trance a shot and let me tell you I don't like trance .
and btw Carl cox is boring :)

Not the tech house parties I've been to .
Techno more reserved? have you ever seen how nuts and bananas people go over Hawtin when he plays ? I would have thought that after being hawtin's prima donna for a while now Dubfire might have learned something from Richie , I was obviously mistaken :toothless

I can't talk about other times whatever stuff Taj plays. The little I know is from what i've seen on his charts, that he plays different styles , Lets say that this time Taj went along with the style that Rooz and Alland play which btw I have seen both of them on multiple times .
I have to repeat again what I have been telling my friends right after that gig, it was my first time seeing him and he was great, better than the other 2 which I consider them very good dj's . The guy owned the place it seemed like he really knows which track sounds perfect for that huge sound system , he was filtering the tracks every now and then, fading completely down 2 beats , bringing it up again, keeping the groove goign from what the other 2 played before him ... it was insane . |

& you dont have to like the mashups i play. happily & contently i will say many many others on the dancefloor along with myself rather enjoy hearing familiar sounds in tunes.
funny....dubfire recently made one of the biggest commercialized mashups (amongst several other dubfire mashups) of 2010.....armand van helden - you dont know me.....hmmm kettle is black isn't it?
& IMO any dj that travels to 35 other venues in 35 other cities around the world doesnt mean jack! for me what means jack is what they do in the venue you are dancing in (or not) @ that moment. if that "massive well known headlining" dj is not moving people on the dancefloor @ that moment then the rest of the "HYPE" is simply that... plain & simple generic diluted "HYPE." |

Ok I totally wasnt gonna chime in but now I must cause this is a subject I ve been dealing with alot lately. Taj & Edm dancer hit it right on the mark. Unfortunately the music business as a whole has nothing to do with talent. It all comes down to who you know! Yes you may be the next level dj or superstar producer but if someone doesnt come along to help you out and get you career moving you are not going anywhere. With ALOT of these big djs they have got lucky with the right group of people they have found to elevate their career. Ive seen alot of mega-big djs in my life and you would be surprised how many absolutely sucked! But because they knew the right people they were able to travel to 35 other venues in 35 other cities around the world
Just sayin
P.S. Seen taj play that set a million times and he always ceases to amazing me by playing exactly what the crowd needs at just the right time. To me that is the kind of dj I would look up to! |

It was an OT fundraiser, and I beg to differ on Cox sucking there. Don't get me wrong, Dutch played a great set as well, probably better tracks than Cox (more funkyish/minimal stuff but still very big room), but I go to parties to party not chinstroke and the vibe was off the ing chain during Cox's entire set. |

Think they went to the TI massive too and liked his set then. |
