Im not sure you understood me, i was refereng to the example that samisthedon gave on that track, ofcourse that layering is important, for lets say some energetic uplifting, but for these kind of basslines, im not sure that would save things up, especially not with delay, it would sound messy, and hes looking for that clear cutted bass.

If you have time, show us how you`re doing it. ;)

No its fine, i understood you. Im telling you that you if you listen to this track that the OP listed Dash Berlin - Man On The Run - you can hear the sub bass with another sort of high passed bass on top - thats layering basses
Listening again i dont think there is a delay on the top bass, but there seems to be another little sound at the end of the bar that has some delay, its tricky to place

that particular clear cut sound in the top bass sounds like a pulse wave maybe mixed with sawtooth, ill try and stick something together..........

if you want a pumping kick that could be fine.

Bass clarity and layering don't fit , i would start from a dry bass with limiters, filtering of frequencies that you don't want and in short getting only the sound output you want.

heres something that i was trying to explain earlier, not exact of course but you get the idea sample

great, now ive got that "man on the run" track stuck in my head :whip: :D

Sounds like 2 layers to me.

- The sub as someone mentioned and posted the midi for. This is a low pass filtered saw, possibly with distortion and detuning, who knows? Mess about to get similar results. It sounds like the filter on the sub opens up, so use the filter envelopes to to sort that out.

- Also listen carefully, there is a deep, metallic pluck landing on the same notes as the sub bass. This could be done with FM synthesis, or filter envelope with some resonance.

- You won't ever get this exact sound, but you can come close, so don't beat yourself up trying to.

- The sound of the kick matters a lot. It is probably side chained, there will be of course eq and compression too.

The new A&B?

The problem is, that in Man On The Run, there are two different bass paterns.

The first (subbass) pattern is a single C# note,
but the second layered bass plays TWO notes at the same time :)

This bass is lowpassed like the sub, but the filter opens up on longer notes

There is also a third layer that is a plucky, short sound. There are also C# and G#

With an interval of a 5th, the bass becomes harmonically richer, but C or C# is a borderline below which we should not go (if we want our bass to sound full and powerful). Dash Berlin makes this mistake and there are moments when he uses notes A and E (lower). It sounds ugly! 5ths and lower intervals played in very low octaves shouldn't be used

^ So you mean just a triad without the third?

How common is it to have your bass playing more than one note at a time?

Usually I make the bass follow the root notes (and only the root notes) of my chord progression, and this often makes my basslines sound pretty dull, but I'm afraid to do it any other way..

So, if I have a chord progression in my song, and my bassline doesn't strictly follow the root notes of the chords, and I've instead made it sound good by ear, irrelevant to the root notes of the chords, will some "musical genious" come shouting my bassline is irrelevant to my chord progression? Thanks.

God, this could be useful, maybe been obeying some too strict guidelines in this matter.

Hey Guys,

I was just wondering if anyone has any tips on getting a bass line to have the clarity and crispness of these guys? I have tried so many different things but wondered if anyone has any good tips? You can listen to You never said on Juno Download.... Its got such crispness to it....

I have a few waves plugins and run logic and have synths such as massive, predator, albino, blue, v station and a few other....

Thanks :-)

Crispness hmm...that bass has got loads of low end

but yeah it's indeed layering and some processing going on, like some already wrote...

here's what i came up with, first the bassline/s soloed than
at 00:14 the same recreated bassline with the drumloop from the remix

at 00:29 you have the original part playing

00:44 again my replica and after 8 bars the original song

if you wanna know how it's done, let me know!
