Get a proper soundcard like the audio 4 or something if you don't have one, you will find maschine a pain without a proper soundcard. (latency)
Maschine is brilliant!!!, it's a lot of fun. It's also a kick ass midi controller, those pads work excellently as hot cues.
Cannot comment of ableton. |

| Rodri Santos |
Roland MC-909 Groovebox
And possibly an effects deck |

I don't really see how you make your own music with 2 decks and a mixer. :conf:
Anyway, more details on specific aspects of your setup might help, for example are you running any software on your Mac already? Are you interested in adding effects/loops via Ableton etc? |

NO NO NO NO NO, do not buy the kaossilator. It's a waste of money. Also don't buy the Maschine if you have no real reason to. You'd be much better off getting a MIDI keyboard if you want to start producing.
If I understand correctly you've decided to start DJing and producing? I assume that's what you mean when you say you want to make you own music to play. If that is the case you should really make two seperate threads (one here and one in Production Studio) as they are very different and one topic here won't be of much use.
Actually, don't start DJing and producing at the same time. Frankly, that's a terrible idea. If you start trying to do both you'll either A) Keep doing both but you won't get very good at either since you can't concentrate on one or B) Realize you don't want to do one and then cry about all the money you spent on it.
Than again, maybe I misunderstood and you only want to DJ. In that case, ignore everything I just said. |

| i got big pants |
from what it sounds like...ableton will be your best bet. get a multi output soundcard, some midi controllers, and if you go the production route.
you can have the option of mixing between ableton and your cd decks although its not the greatest imo.
check out the abletonlivedj forums to get some ideas. |

| Just wondering, why do so many DJ's get a Mac instead of a PC when it comes to using a laptop with their mobil setups and DVS |

Mac is more reliable and manages the hardware better, Ableton live and this kind of software leech all the resources and introduces distortion to the sound if the processor specially isn't very fast.
However the current laptops are powerful enough for this so i think people use the mac because PvD and others use it and looks more professional, it's like when people underate some djs because of the gear they use... having 2x CDJ 2000 and Pioneer DJM-800 makes you a better dj? |
