Grime

First and foremost, apart from old prog and banging techno, I've always been a big hiphop fan. That's why I'm bringing this subject up. So what you guys reckon about grime? Been listening to it for quite a while. It's fairly big around here and so are dubstep. Anyhow, the main reason why I brought it up, is because I assume the lot of you either have disregarded, or just purely hate this genre?
Artists worth to mention would be: Wiley, Kano, Chipmunk, Ears,Dizzee Rascal, Giggs, Max Peezay ( Swedish bloke ) please fill me in, if you have any recommendations?

After Wiley made Eskimo, MCs realised that they don't have to be relegated to simply hosting the way they were in the 2step/UK Garage-days, and wanted to be artists in their own right. It can also be argued that the change came about because people were getting sick and tired of the glossy bling-aesthetics of the UK Garage-scene, as people were really living on rough inner city London council estates.

Since then, things have changed quite a bit. Grime events were getting clamped down upon more and more, and there weren't any regular events for producers to test run and develop beats. Also, of course, technology progressed, and production software became more readily available. Therefore, it gradually moved away from the extremely minimal and bassy sound it started out with, and turned more towards hip hop-ish patterns (though still at 140 BPM), from this...

...to this:

You probably won't find much love for grime around here, as it is a decidedly London-centric genre (same way dubstep was 5-6 years ago). I also have a hard time really getting into it, as I really can't relate to or agree with what MCs chat about most of the time. Still, I quite like these:

(Yes, this is what Tinchy Stryder does when he's not making pop music for teenage girls. I think Ruff Sqwad also worked with Max Peezay on one of his mixtapes)

Cheers man! I know you have a pretty wide range in music taste and thought you'd be one of the few who'd reply. That ''Ruff Squad'' track is pretty sick btw! I also find it hard it to relate to a lot of the rubbish they're chatting about. I'm more keen about the beats and the base itself

I only had the opportunity to attend a few ''All Out Dubstep'' parties which are pretty big over here and all I can say is that it sounds really dope on a proper system. As far as I'm concerned I can't really be arsed to bother to much about the lyrics the same way I do while listening to hiphop. Not saying they're comparable in any way though. Apart from the usual pot/segregation nonsense, which tends to get a bit dull..

Sand Leaper said it all. As for recommendations, try Future by Ruff Sqwad (yes, that's the actual spelling), Splurt by Landslide Vs. Slaughtermob (preferably the Skream Mix), some material by Ripperman who makes instrumentals within Grime (like Ringer, Fields of War and Rubble, all on the Rubble EP).

Hmm, Mercston is sweet too, check out his EP Good Old Days!
