I think it's cool if a up-and-coming producer has his track played by a big-time DJ, but I think that at the same time people often make too big of a ing deal about it.
There's an uplifting trance producer I like, but I'm not going to reveal his name because a couple of his label mates post on here and I don't want them to whine and derail the subject of this topic.
A couple weeks ago, this producer had his track played by Jorn Van Deynhoven during his set at Poland's ASOT 450 event, and he literally shat his pants. The next day after the show, the producer was posting crappy quality 40-second clips of Jorn playing the track on his Facebook profile every hour or so boasting how his song was played by him.
So Jorn Van Deynhoven played his song...big deal? I mean it's not like everyone at that event is going to remember that track, ID it, and then go out and buy it on Beatport later, which only gives a couple pennies to the artist for each song someone buys from them. The same thing applies to online listeners.
Another example is pretty much anyone getting their track played by Armin on ASOT and they freak out. Armin plays so many shows a week, and in addition to the ASOT broadcast, I would say he "supports" 100 tracks each week by playing them.
So for a budding producer to boast "My track got played on ASOT!!!"...what the does it matter? The guy is just trying to find music to play each week and he happened to pick someone's track that got mailed to him on a blank promo disc CD-R in a white sleeve. Armin probably doesn't even know who half these producers are...but on the other end they flip a that he "supported" them by playing their track. Just because Armin played their track doesn't mean he's dedicated to promoting them to everyone he runs into or plays a show in front of. It's just a once over in a set.
I know that any promotion is better than none, but I don't understand why some DJ's/producers list these "My track got played by ________" statements as if it's their greatest accomplishment.

i agree , but if AvB plays your track you can say to your twitter followers that he played it (although they probably already know since everybody who is following trance looks at ASOT track list) it's a buzz if you are an upcoming producer and he plays it, you got some attention , had your track on air and it's the proof that you made a good track (despite some of the tracks Armin plays are so boring).
If someone spams about it, is a ing nerd... i find hilarious too how some djs in the top 100 still are doing the same

I dunno man, if a tune I made was played by a big name DJ or at an event/radio station where many listeners would hear it, I'd be chuffed to bits.
Not saying I'd go round bragging about it but I'd regard it as something I should be very proud of.
Ultimately it means more people are going to hear and hopefully enjoy my track which is what it's all about.

Not everything is about money and fame. Some people might just think it's super awesome that their track is played by someone who is a big, established name and act excited. If he really posted that every 60 minutes on Facebook, then it is indeed an overreaction, but he has every ing right in the world to be happy.

they're happy because on some level their work stood out enough for someone to play it for a large audience of people. they worked on something. it was acknowledged by their community. they were pleased and noted their pleasure on their facespacewitter.

i think in general there is way too much stroking going on within all these stupid subgenre scenes
it's cool if you get your track played, and it's always a rush, but if you promote it like you describe then it's just obnoxious.

I don't see anything wrong with a budding producer being excited that someone supports their songs.
Let's not forget, it's not easy to make songs. The producer you are talking about probably spends way too much time on his craft. This is his reward.
I wouldn't mind if he posted that every 60 min. Dude deserves it.
