My experience at club Set...

So last night I saw Wippenberg at Club Set. I loved his set but what shocked me was the way that the place operates. Maybe there's something I'm missing, being that it was my first time at that venue. I knew about the dress code but even with proper attire they were giving us problems getting into the club. I'd understand if we did not have tickets but that wasn't the case. There wasn't much of a crowd outside waiting to get in (we were the only pre-sales in the crowd) yet we had to continually hassle the guy at the front. After about an hour he finally let us in even though his facial expression and tone of voice clearly implied that he did not really want us there. We then find out that the cover is $25 when our PRE-sales were $35...wtf? Once inside we kept getting pushed aside by bouncers, door men, and even the people sweeping the floors even though there was PLENTY of walking room. I tried to put all that behind me because they did have a nice visual set-up (probably my favorite if it wasn't for the weird lay out)
So I'm dancing and enjoying the music when I receive a text from some friends (3 girls, 1 guy) that were outside waiting to get in. They also had pre-sales and were dressed in proper attire. They said the guy at the front (same one from before) kept avoiding them and after about 45 mins he told them to leave because they weren't getting in. The only logical thing to assume is that he denied them entry because 1 of the girls was overweight.
There are so many things that didn't seem right about that night. My girlfriend read a lot of bad things about that venue but I never expected it to be like that. Chances are very slim that I'll ever be going back.
Anyone have any information and/or experiences that could help me understand why this club operates in such a way? |

ive heard similar stories before. never been and probably will never go just because of this. if you look at the wanttickets pages of their shows it always says "Admission at doorman’s discretion." so even if you buy a ticket they can still tell you to off. i will not subject myself to that kinda bull.
what i dont understand is how they can take your money and not offer you the services which you paid for in return. shouldnt that be some kind of better business bureau issue? |

| I believe most clubs in Miami Beach leave it to the doormans discretion...actually that happened to me at Space a couple times now that I think about it...lol...it was very suprising...and at Mansion as well:toothless |

:wtf:
if you have to think about it to remember then you're probably misremembering what actually happened. ive never seen space or mansion do this. just because you have to wait a second to get ided or to get checked off the list doesnt mean you're being discriminated against the way set does it to people.
i hate it when people come for wmc for example and everyones like "oh no, mansion is so strict, can i even get in?" because its such bull. it might take awhile, but everyone gets let in. space is only ever an issue on big nights when they over sell tickets. but thats a totally different matter anyway. |

| I am sorry this happened to you. This is the true definition of "trendy SouthBeach clubs" only for the beautiful people. It is really sad. :( I heard about this on Friday afternoon and couldnt find any information about it so I didnt go. Wow Whippenberg thats pretty awesome though. |

Yup, I read that part. My g/f was way more upset because they were her friends that got denied entry. I reminded her about the "admission at doorman's discretion" part but she made the point of them having paid the money and not receiving what they paid for. The doorman told them that they could get a refund on wantickets but I'm pretty sure that's BS. When I was talking with the lady that had the will call list, about the cheaper door price vs pre-sale price, she said that opium group had nothing to do with wantickets. I'm sure that they have to have some sort of arrangement (correct me if I'm wrong) but its obvious that there's a lack of communication between the two groups.
And yea I do believe it is a better business bureau issue because customers/guests are getting shafted. Let's see what wantickets will do about the situation. |
