just want to know who uses guitar (distortion) pedals as effects
esp distortion on synths/drums and what you use?
basically wondering if the flavor is worth the money |

| I've used Guitar Rig 3 on vocals and leads. Guitar distortion is a lot different than "normal" distortion, so a lot of times it results in undesired effects. So depending on what you're trying to achieve and how you use the pedals, they may or may not work out for you. |

| i used to have a bunch as I play guitar but have settled with software. Amplitude and Softube are my favourite. The one feature I wish alot of these plugins would allow is a mix of wet and dry. They are designed with only guitar in mind and they are really great for drums and synths. |

I've been playing in a rock band for a few years now, so I have a little experience with pedals. I highly recommend the Boss products because they're affordable and the quality is pretty good. If you're going for distortion, definitely get the Boss DS-1 pedal. This is a classic and favorite pedal among the rock scene. Kurt Cobain from Nirvana used this pedal on the Nevermind album. The retail is $39.99, but you could probably find it on eBay for a lot cheaper. You might also want to experiment with a guitar delay pedal, too. Combining a distortion pedal with a delay pedal might create some interesting sounds with synth work.
Check out this guy using a Boss DS-1 with a Boss SD-1 overdrive on his Roland. Overdrive pedals just basically boosts the gain adding a little grain to the output, but not fully creating a full distortion.
If you are already thinking about it, just go ahead and give it a try. Experiment with it. You never know what masterpiece is lying around the corner :)

| i use my wah (dunlop crybaby) and very rarely, my distortion pedal (DOD FX86B) for effects. the wah creates a nice, smooth, foot-controlled filter. |
