DSI MoPho (Just ordered, curious from other owners)

Just ordered a new MoPho from sweetwater. Was wondering if those who own it, or have owned it, could give some feedback, advice, etc. Really excited to see two sub osc's, and this will be my first analog synth so I can't wait to hear it. I like the fact that it seems to be a very, very simple subtractive synth and look forward to making patches with it (my sound design skills need improvement)

It's obviously good for blistering basslines, but does it do anything else good? I could only imagine leads, possibly sound FX, due to having just one voice. But advice, tips, tricks, etc are highly appreciated!

all great questions you should of asked before the purchase. You really don't make informed decisions.

You can make some pads with a monosynth as well, if you sample it. Also, if you can modulate the pitch with an envelope you can make synthy kick and other percussive sounds. Never used a MoPho myself, though.

Have fun.

The responses here arn't going to change my idea on what I want. I've watched videos and I want one. I got mostly negative comments on the KORG TR-RACK but I still got it and have it. Why would I need to know tips and tricks for a device that I don't even own? Stop trolling please. It's really getting old and I'd hate to see you receive a temp. ban. Consider yourself warned.

Man youve got a serious case of GAS :p

Wasn't aware you were a moderator. Has the waning label afforded you more leisure time ? It is quite annoying every time you and robby either sell or buy something and all the threads that get started because of it. Maybe you guys should start a joint blog.

I've never spent serious time with a Mopho, been too lazy to borrow one off a friend, but I've heard mainly good things about the Mopho sonically.

The interface is obviously a potential issue, but then there is editor software available for it.

I've never been that curious about it, but would grab one if one came along at the right price, but would probably prefer a Tetra.

Meh, kind of pointless post really?

Have fun, enjoy the new synth and report back with your findings. :D

Think of Depeche Mode :stongue:

Plenty of things you can do with mono's... try chords with layered recordings all *slightly* differently tweaked...

4 LFOs in it will help your sounds scuplting. I'm planning on getting one of these also, they're a bargain really.

was debating on just ponying up and getting the tetra because of this but didnt want to spend the money. mopho's seem to have good resale value so if the analog domain is something i enjoy i can always move up. think its neat how dave smith has set up his new line of synths with regards to voices minus the prophet lacking some key features. price wise aside i'd probably use a tetra more than a prophet just because of it. doesn't seem right.

Yeah its annoying how the prophet doesn't have sub oscs or anything like that isn't it. Bit of a silly way to set out your range, although I love his synths. Analogue goodness without the pricetag and the wank factor.

But yeah, the Mopho will be great for adding little bits and bobs to your tracks. Because you make trance, I can't really see you bothering to use it for large chunks of track except for bassline and lead, but maybe try just getting some cool effects, percussions, acid lines, stuff like that out of it. I think if I had one I'd just use it to make little sounds and resample them.

i actually produce a wide range of stuff. just havnt released anything but commercial trance. i love producing Electrance, Prog Trance, Breaks, Ambient, and sound scape/movie score type stuff. Not a big fan of designing FX from scratch but I love to take my numerous sample packs and run FX I like through a gauntlet of filters/processors etc until you usually get something new. (Usually aiming for a specific 'tone' so that the fx will sound right for wherever I'm trying to place it)
