Hey guys, i have bit the bullet and have decided to start having a go at producing. I have splashed out on a mac g5, 2 20" monitors and an m-audio axiom 25. I liked the look of sander van doorns studio so thought id sort of set it out like his. My question is what do i need to buy next to rig this lot together? I mean i wont have the money to buy and hardware synths for a month or so so i just want to be able to rig it up to use software with my axiom. Can you recommend what i need as i dont want to buy crap now i will need to upgrade at a later date.
Cheers

If you are just starting out, then you have all you need. Plug the Axiom into a USB port and off you go. |

The only way to be successful is buy as much expensive old school analog gear as possible.
+1 on the sidechain comment, sidechain your sidechain for MAX POWER |

You really do have all you need.
Except a decent pair of monitoring speakers. Doesn't need to be expensive, a set of HS50s or RP5s will do to start with.
Hardware synths are completely unnecessary although if you do have the money and fancy some of that then by all means do so.
To start out you want to learn everything you can about EQ, compression and levels. Then wait a year or so for your ears to catch up with the theory you've learned.
It's all uphill from now on, but in a good way :D |
