There's some nudity involved, but they're epically lulzworthy:

  • A Lonely Cow Weeps at Dawn: The story of a woman who pretends to be the favourite cow of her senile father-in-law.
  • The Glamorous Life of Sachiko Hanai: The story of a woman who has a bullet lodged in her brain, becomes a super-genius, and is fingered by George W. Bush for whatever reason.
  • Anything by Beat Takeshi. Any. Thing.

Not exactly unknown, but Battle Royale.

Actually, I was pensive for hours on end after watching Battle Royale. Most people think it's egregiously funny, I found it so angsty and deep I cried myself to sleep in foetal position that night as I listened to Schubert...

Well, I didn't really cry, but you get the idea :p

dunno about crazy/lulz, but Takashi Miike has done some awesome movies with the Dead or Alive- (no, has nothing to do with the video games) series
Seppuku

Actually, I'm not sure it's supposed to even exist but, now that its creation has been materialised, yes, it is arguably a sad Freudian drama.
