Anyone else looking forward to this? I wasn't a huge fan of the Holden one, but this is sounding great from what I've heard. They've got a preview of it here: http://www.kode9-djkicks.com/ |

Well, it's Kode9, so that means buy on sight in my book. This has a lot of tunes I've heard him play out and danced my ass off to (Move Down Low and Mugwanti are absolute bangers), plus loads of new dubs that'll be interesting to hear. If you don't like funky and want a dubstep CD, however, you would do well to steer clear of this one. At least half of this CD seems to consist of funky, much like Kode9's sets do these days.
Still, I'm a bit disappointed that the DJ-Kicks-series has turned into merely yet another conventional mix cd-series, when it used to be an opportunity for people to do something a bit different than usual (the installments from Kid Loco, Nicolette, Kruder & Dorfmeister and Andrea Parker are all good examples of this). |

Yeah, I think that's the main thing attracting me to this...I love Kode9's dubstep stuff, but I've been getting more and more into funky/garage-ish stuff lately. I'm not familiar with most of the tracks, but judging from the preview/samples this looks like to be a good mix to help me ease into the style a bit more.
I could have definitely lived without hearing Footcrab ever again though. |
