| You should look into getting a product for your dishwasher called lemi-shine. A small scoop with each dish load really makes a huge difference if your water sucks. |

What you want with electric is cast iron-enamelled pots and pans, basically electric is fairly terrible for cooking because it can be hard to keep heat on and the cast iron retains it better than the alloys so you do get better consistency. Its not any harder to clean than non-stick alloy and basically bulletproof... or idiot proof in the case of my house where a certain someone did bad things to my good alloy-iron frypan with a non-stick surface.
Now you're probably wallowing in cash being a captain I'd recommend the LeCreuset or Matfer, it'll be around longer than you will :p |
I agree with your recommendation; but, have you seen Will? I'm not sure he can lift a cast-iron pan.
just kidding, Will... Lilith is right. Alternatively, you can get steel pots and pans that have a cast iron base. Lagostina makes a nice set. |

I think what was making my water so sucky was that my water heater was 18 years old. and probably never flushed out. it has ed my dishwasher, because i have permanent calcium stains in it. and by permanent, i mean CLR didn't get rid of it. and neither did vinegar. but w/ a recent $800 water heater replacement, my water is now way, WAY better. in fact, i've even noticed my faucets are getting better on their own.
in any case, it sounds like cast iron is the best; but if not, then iron-laced stainless steel is a good 2nd place. a buddy of mine has cast iron stuff; and i find it difficult to cook with, and cleaning afterwards, you can't keep it wet...and have to use oil in with cooking stuff too...not really a fan (i like to just put in and cook it).
i'll check out the brand names y'all mentioned. really, i was hoping to get stuff off amazon, as i have a $75 gift card to it. |

Bought a couple of Global knives this week. A proper cooks knife, and a boning knife.
Lol, boning. |

exactly. if you wash them by hand (with the soft side of the sponge) it should retain its quality for a long time :) |
