[REVIEW] United Festival Buffalo NY

Well…let me start this out with the fact that I have never been to Buffalo before, so I had no idea what to expect.

United Fest was a 4 day long EDM fest held in Buffalo and Irving NY.

I was only there for two days, as I was in DC for Menno on sat. We then drove up to Buffalo Sunday am the 30th and spent Sunday and Monday in Buffalo for the festival.

The only issue I really came across was that my lack of knowledge of the area led me to believe that the festival was all secluded to a fairly small area (ie walkable, ect). I was wrong. Sundays events were held in downtown Buffalo and Mondays events were held in Irving right out side of Buffalo on the Beach- Sunset Bay Beach.

This was not a huge issue though, Tyler took great care of us and carted our trance asses around all weekend 

Sunday we got to Buffalo around 3ish and did some discovering including Niagra Falls which was awesome!

We then made our way to town for the Festival where downtown was full of clubs all playing EDM. Most clubs lined the street with their doors wide open and roof top bars blasting a different tune….as you made your way through the street you were pulled into yet a new EDM tune and found yourself bouncing around every moment of the night!

We spent most of our night at SoHo’s roof top and in Pure. We started at SoHo which was great, except the DJ kept losing sound and blowing his connection….which was a bit funny but no big deal especially since our amazing tour guide, Tyler made sure we had a drink in our hands every minute!

Then we were onto Pure where Menno was to play. We showed up about 30 minutes before his set only to find the club completely empty. Which was fine, because it gave me a moment to really take in what I never expected- a pretty bad ass club! The lighting was very decent the sound was to be held up there with most of the top clubs I frequent often. The place was neat, stream lines and clearly modeled after some of the best clubs in the industry. Certainly NOT something I thought Id find in Buffalo NY.

As the spoiled trance brat that I am I was not sad to see the nearly 50 people jamming to menno…but within 30 minutes of his set the crowd grew to quite a decent size…yet still small enough that everyone could dance together without getting in anyones way. Everyone there was not only really nice, but really beautiful! They breed them well upstate, guys! Hahahah

The set was fabulous, basically a replay of his Dc set (which was to be exected). When he was done he was more then happy to meet his fans- surprsinngly not too many people were crowding him though so we got to chew his ear for a while. Menno is so nice! Love him!

The Eddie Halliwell was on….to my surprise, I hadn’t paid attention to the line up- so now I was seeing not only Menno twice in one weekend but now Eddie too.HAHHA

His set was similar to his Pacha set the Friday before, but with less ups and no repeated tracks. Sorry Eddie….gotta call it like I hear it.

Then I heard exactly what I needed to hear (for the 5th time that weekend) Stranger to stability….however, when it happened this time my body and mind were attacked with the surprise of C02 being sprayed on me!!!!!!!! HHAHAHHA I DID NOT EXPECT THIS!

I think I would have expected a surprise visit from Markus Schulz before this. Also…ive never been in a club that does that before. It was fabulous I was so hot…then….not….amazing every club needs to have this!!

Every time we needed a break we walked up stairs to Pure’s outside patio which held two more DJs rocking some house beats and a bunch of “couches” (not soft) for us to chill and smoke…really nice.

Pure is definitely a club I intend on going back to. They keep everything very tidy, very organized and the lack of trance followers there meant that everyone was uber respectful and super happy and the place didn’t get destroyed because it was never over crowded.

Buffalo definitely surprised the out of me!

We went home for a nap then up and ready for the beach. Monday we went to Sunset Bay Beach in Irving (about 30 minutes or so from Buffalo). Here there was one “club” outside bar with tunes inside that were NOT EDM so I was very scared but as we walked through we found ourselves on the patio outside with some nice house tunes…..we made out way to the scortching sand and chilled out on the beach until it was time for trance at 6pm…..

A storm was to make its way through so everything got a bit cool and moved inside…where the temp was at least 100 degrees! Gareth came a little late due to his plane being delayed (when he tweeted that he may not make it my heart sank! I had never seen gareth before!)

But alas….at 730ish Gareth was in the house and on the decks! The crowd was loving every second! Again, small crowd, just enough for the building….

Every DJs set was perfect. Everyone I met was amazing….the entire weekend was awesome!

Ill admit….when first my plans from going to Cali to see markus and armin changed to seeing Buffalo NY….i was a little disappointed. But now, I am SO happy I did this!

I can not thank Tyler enough for everything! What an amazing host! Such a great guy I can not wait to spend so many more trance treks with him!!!!! He is full of fun and loves all the same music I do! Everytime he went to play a song on our journey I was like “omg I love this song” and found ourselves saying it in unison!!

Thank you to everyone who made this event happen and thank you to Menno Eddie and Gareth especially who really rocked my world!!! I finally got to see and talk to GARETH!!!!! SO FUN!!!

Im already planning next years and making sure all my NYC friends come!

Good to hear events like these are successful...upstate NY needs more of this kind of stuff (especially the Syracuse area).
