passed my G on the first try. 98%. 2 points off for not checking the blind spot when i went into a left turn lane which was complete BS considering it was one of those lanes you drove straight into as opposed to actually changing lanes. |
but you still should've checked your blind spot because there are people who like to start going in to that lane way before it actually opens up. you could've crashed in to one of them. |

it was a double solid line on a two lane road with the white broken lines coming out from the middle. If anyone was in that lane before it opened up they would have had a head on collision with opposing traffic.
To go straight in this instance you would have had to keep right to go around the turn lane.
It wasnt a case of a turn lane forming out of a centre lane |

A friend failed once for a similar thing, he defense was that the other driver(s) on the road were following the correct rules and laws, his turn would have been 100% safe and justified. But the tester said that you cannot assume they are driving properly so you must make proper decisions accordingly. He tried to fight it, but failed regardless.
Turning right onto a 4 lane road seperated with a median with 2 lanes traffic each way, he turned right on a red when oncoming had advance green. He claimed that the oncoming traffic SHOULD be turning into thier first lane, leaving his lane open to turn right on... made sense to me! |

no wonder u get the douchebags that sit there and wait. I will make the turn. Of course its usually obvious when some idiot is about to cross over so im extra careful. But its still legal to make that turn. He did nothing wrong.
the worst are the jackasses that will slam on the brakes almost causing a rear ender so as to wait for pedestrians when coming off the freeway when the sign clearly says "pedestrians wait for gap". Those idiots get the 30 second horn treatment (at least) when im behind them |

yes he SHOULD have been safe to turn in to the right lane but you just never know if one of those people turning left from oncoming traffic will turn directly in to the lane that is supposed to be his. however, the oncoming traffic has a GREEN advance light while his light is still red which means the oncoming has right of way. he should remain stopped at the light until it is legal and safe to proceed. |

See I think you're both right... one one hand, if I am to assume I am driving correctly and to the law, that everyone is driving safe and to the law... that first available line on my right SHOULD be clear and ready to drive in (while being cautious of course)...and any good driver knows to time his turn to come directly after someone else completed thier left turn, and before the car following him turning left... I would have done the same, and still do, while being aware however, which is what good driving is.
But as Chinamon says too, you can't know what the oncoming traffic may do, they may assume that you are staying there and go into the second lane.
That being said, safe and legal are two different things, safety entails legally driving, where you come to a complete and full stop, ackknowledge your intent to turn, signal and proceed smoothly.
If he felt it was safe, he made his turn... |

also barrie is a good place to take the test... i passed my g2 there first try and my g the second time after failing in london the first time. both my testers were pleasant and i did not have to parallel park either time
in london, the testing centre is on exeter rd so as soon as you turn out of the parking lot you have to get up to 80. i failed on the first turn of the test bc i didn't get up to 80 fast enough (driving a kia hatchback, lmao) and a guy who pulled into the right lane to pass couldnt and had to go back into the left lane.
but i didn't know right then that i failed, and the tester didn't say anything... we continued to drive around for a full 45 minutes (it's only supposed to be a 15 minute test, 20 max). i parallel parked perfectly after driving deep into some residential area.
i was pretty confident i passed. at the end of the test he told me i failed on the first turn, and also claimed he failed me because i almost went down to 80 on the highway. i should point out, this was while it was raining and the slow-down in question happened while i was going through a construction zone (no workers bc of the rain but the roads had all those tiny vertical grooves that make your kia hatchback sort of vibrate).
i figured they just tried to fail everyone their first time, so as to make $75 at least twice in most cases. most of my friends had to do their g test twice, for reasons that sounds like similar bs to mine. didn't realize it's privatized but it certainly makes sense |

it was legal and safe is at the discretion of the driver. He did nothing wrong to warrant failing a test. If this is how they are doing it these days it explains alot of the douchebaggery out there on the roads. |

I did the first time too, I didn't want to slam my brakes on when the light turned amber or the guy behind me would have hit me too, so I went through and they failed me for that reason alone.
The next one 3 weeks later I was slightly over the speed limit the whole test and he still passed me and said he didn't care about that.
I think it all depends on the instructor you get or else you just don't know how to drive if you fail a million times.

It depends on the traffic violation too. There are certain violations that are automatic failures, and others are just points docked. |
