also been doing TV things since january, landed 6 TV commercials and 4 internet ad's so far. hoping to transition out of my current day job and into this full time, it's a lot of work, super competitive and it's like a 10% chance i get paid on the projects but i enjoy it and i really need something like this to keep me in the studio full time. |

how do you only get 10% of what you do ? Do you just try and license the stuff you've already done or do people just not use what they commissioned and not pay you? Seems a little weird. I would try and intern with an established production company or composer that has steady work and needs help. You have to be rather versatile tho as you don't get to choose the style or type of arrangement. |

company i work for has 17 musicians on staff and about a dozen on freelance (me included). When the company gets hired by ZYZ firm the same video and reference gets sent to 4 or 5 of us musicians. we all submit 2 or 3 of our best ideas, those best ideas go to XYZ firm and whosever they pick gets paid. Pretty cut throat but i've landed most of what i've tried so far. I would say at my height i knew about 30+ scales from memory and my finger skills are pretty good. I can fake most sounds decent enough to fool the agencies (and sometimes the guys at the company i get contracted thru). i'll post the Audi one i did when i get off today |

Sounds sketchy. I would honestly try to hook up with something a little more certain. The best way is to find a composer that has too much work and needs help. Interning is really the only way to get in. As far as who has too much work, any working composer for film or tv generally is overwhelmed and will have some sort of support staff. |

sketchy? Maybe i'm just use to 100% commission jobs but this seems to be how the world works, at least from where i'm sitting. |

you just told me you get paid 10% for what you do. That sounds sketchy and it isn't how it works in most places. It almost sounds illegal. Seems like you are working in the world of licensing which is much different than working with a composer or production company that gets regular contracts that span a few a months. Seems extremely stressful illegal and about as close to prostitution as it comes. |

I just find that setup very weird. It doesn't seem like the type of company that will push you in the right direction. Seems like they are more intent on using you and you have to ask yourself if that is really what you want to do. |

Very long ago when i started, i was so into uplifting, but the entire forum was.
So yea BPM at 140 and 4/4 kick and let's practice and make many FLP/RNS files and sometimes a 6-8 mins of loops comes out that you call a track and post it here hoping for awesome feedback. :) i miss those days :D
Anyway as time passed by and me getting better, i slowly went to the slower side of Trance. Suddenly i loved making beats at 130 BPM speed and if i went to 137-140 it always sounded so ugly in my ear. And from there on i never could make proper uplifting anymore, even though i still liked/like to listen to it.
I quit long while ago but i always felt that i made the genres i wanted to make, which were, Progressive, breakbeats, chillout and housy things. |
