Sytrus (Harmonic Magnitude)

Can anyone tell me what the harmonic magnitude bars do in the oscillator section on each operator in Sytrus? When I use it it totally alters the wave form in ways that I don't understand.

Any help is appreciated

Thanks!,

I'm pretty sure those are harmonic editors , for additive synthesis.
You know , like Morphine?

Yeah, don't have the program but absynth has a similar thing.

Every wave can be thought of as either a repeating signal or as a stack of sine waves on top of each other.

A harmonics editor like that uses the second model, and allows you to add partials into the signal, which are overtones about the fundamental frequency of an oscillator. Look up additive synthesis if you don't know what I mean.

I'm familiar with additive synthesis in that waves are added onto each other to change the sound. I just don't understand how the a bunch of columns with a level control moving along a picture representation of the original wave works.

Starting to come together. Thanks for the replies.
