The creation of UK techno stalwart, Jel Ford, Jericho Recordings has been pushing their take on the funky and deep techno sound since 1998. The Jericho musical philosophy has proved to be a popular one, with artists such as Adam Beyer, Umek, Dave Angel, Bryan Zentz, Christian Smith, Cirez D and Cari Lekebusch contributing to the label’s catalogue and supporting the labels output.

When detailing Joel Mull’s production career it’s almost easier to name the labels that he is yet to appear on than to list the magnitude of seminal imprints that have come calling for his work. From techno leviathans like Harthouse, Music Man, Cocoon and Drumcode to the more eclectic Turbo, Audiomatique, Liebe*Detail and Saved Records, the variety of labels Joel has recorded for says everything about his ability as a producer to balance sounds from right across the spectrum.

Title track High Coast Highway opens up the package with a slow burning lament that fuses mystical Detroit soundscapes and moody deep house as melancholic chords and shimmering melodies weave around a chugging rhythm.

Walking Straight flips the vibe of the EP with an energetic and twisted workout focused around a tight tribal groove. Patiently structured to accentuate a tense, building vibe the payback comes via a mashed up vocal loop in the breakdown.

Rounding off the EP is the charmingly wonky and highly infectious Stockholm Summer Cruise. Creating its hook from off-kilter key patterns and undulating bassline, this distinctive tech bumper has the groove to make the floor move.
