Remember you are talking about world famous artists!
Think about any artsit known world wide and you won't see them in many club shows

Whats happening in London can give you an indication maybe of what's really the reason

I think there are other elements in play. In LA area there is 3 major driving force that has the $$$ to book big talents. Giant, Insomiac and Goventures.

Each of the big name DJs when they are being book has a contract that states they are not allowed to play for others (for example) 90 days before and 90 days after their gig, unless the gig is sanctioned by the organization that has booked them. (having talked to the agent handling one of them)

So this creates some sort of, monopoly. Thats why when Markus came, he played at Sutra and Avalon, both handled by Giant. His contract forbid him to play at other venues. Thats why sometimes you see big name dj's doing after parties or 'surprise' appearance without prior notice. Its in the contract.

My point of view. Can't say its the same reason why PVD won't play LA clubs thou. Are we digressing too much?

(this is completely my own belief which could be completely wrong. I think on top of the agent's booking fees to the artist. There might be bribes that goes towards the agents as well. Think about it. Super DJ. Every club wants him. If 3 large groups are bidding for him are willing to pay up the nose, which group is the agent going to pick? I would suspect a little under the table envelope might help facilitate the pick.)

Because it's easier for him and gives him 20x exposure to just be bokoed at a massive once a year, or twice sometimes.

It's the same reason you won't see Armin in a club in LA this year.

It's why Tiesto has done long breaks.

Markus didn't play in a club in LA for like a year and a half, too....and it's still be pretty sparingly overall.

It's just how is.

Again, SoCal massives really hurting the (trance) club scene, IMO. Been saying it, will keep saying it.

it's not the money for PvD!!

LA people's are bunch of PvD HATER.

Please appreciate their work more!!
then he will come back!!!

Atomu - I agree that much of LA likes the dreamy dutch DJ sound exemplified by Tiesto, who is the only DJ who can sell out stadiums here in LA. PVD is way underappreciated. That being said, PVD has sold out every club date in LA. The last couple Vanguard appearances were insanely crowded (longest bathroom line i've ever seen at vanguard). So my original question was why no more club dates in LA? You can't sell more than "sold out". all you have left is to move to a bigger venue (hence my suggestion to copy Ferry and go to Palladium next).

Jimji - That was an interesting article. Your posting has inspired me to create a new posting. I actually always wondered about the exclusivity issue for promoters - if you're gonna pay to fly PVD first class from europe, then you might as well book him for SD, SF, LV and LA if you can (it's cheap to fly him 1st class between those cities). I am surprised that exclusivity would extend 90 days before and after - that's 180 days or 1/2 year. Anyways, you would think that PVD would recognize that while his music is better than Tiesto, he can't appeal to the uninformed masses as much as the cheesy dutch Tiesto.

I'm still wondering whether there's some bad blood between PVD's agent and one of the LA promoters.

PVD needs to come back to the Mayan and drop some hard techno like he used to there. His sets there were always amazing. I remember he used to ride the whole spectrum from breaks to house to trance to hard techno in one night. It used to get so packed in there that the whole floor would wobble from people jumping up and down. Simply amazing!!!! I guess there's something about the Mayan that most nights there were always magical and TA's were always front row!!! I can only think of one night there where I was kinda bored, otherwise nothing but good times.

I loved seeing pvd at the mayan. I'd always try to make it down to LA to see him when he played there, even if it was the in the middle of the week.

I think the last time I saw him there was October 2003, though.

As long as Markus keeps comin to LA/LV/SF thats as big as dj we need. #8 DJ, whoever else above him doesnt deserve to be IMO
Also, that pix above is pretty typical of the front of the stage (3 women 50 men) LOL
