So I have to order a new laptop by the end of the night. I am a college student, so this computer will primarily be used for studies and general work / labor. I don't really play that many computer games so I'm not wanting a gaming power house. Battery life is also some what important to me, since my last laptop was a battery hog, and only lasted an hour unplugged. It was a bitch to have to always plug it in somewhere when I wanted to use it in class or in the library. I'm also a DJ, so I'll use it with serato and my live performances from time to time.
My budget is 1500USD. Here is what I'm looking at so far.
1. Vaio = $1389.98 (1289.98 if college discount?)
14"
Intel® Core™ i5-540M processor (2.53GHz) with Turbo Boost up to 3.06GHz
500GB hard disk drive (7200rpm)
8GB (4GBx2) DDR3-SDRAM-1066
ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5470 GPU (512MB VRAM)
2. Alienware M15x = $1511.50
15"
Intel® Core™ i5-540M 2.53GHz (3.06Ghz Turbo Mode, 3M cache)
1GB ATI Radeon™ Mobility HD 5730
4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz
320GB SATAII 7,200RPM
3. Macbook Pro = $1349.00 ($1249.00 if college discount)
13"
4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
4. HP DV5T = $1343.98
14.5"
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-520M Dual Core processor (2.40GHz, 3MB L2 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.93GHz
8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
500GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
Intel(R) HD Graphics (WTF is this... no other options)
5. ASUS G Series G51JX-A1 = $1,399.99
15.6"
Intel Core i7 720QM(1.6GHz)
6GB DDR3
500GB 7200rpm
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M
1GB GDDR5 VRAM
Any ideas? |

+1 To the macbook pro if you don't mind using Mac. If you don't like the Mac software then get the Vaio.
Forget about getting HP and Alienware, their just rubbish |

I have an HP that's worked great for the last 2 years. It has an amazing screen and video card that has yet to meet its match in any game I throw at it.
Just wanted to throw the stick of doubt into the spokes of decision. |
