so like the thread title suggest, yes there is tons and tons of tutorials out there, but something about a physicaly copy of a book, helps me learn faster also its more accesible. when ur on the go:D
looking for books that would help more on the dance music tip of course, making it sound good in a club etc...but just music in general would be good. |

I should point out that this book is very in-depth in terms of technical information, but neutral in terms of genre/style. In other words, it's written such that it can be applied to any genre, not specifically for dance or any other genre/style.
If you want something more hands-on and genre-specific, but also much more expensive, check out "The Trance Experience" or "Production Mixing Mastering with Waves". |

It has audio examples of the mixing techniques, and it has 4 mixes you can learn from. It shows you what processing techniques he did and what they sound like dry and wet, in the mix and on it's own. He also shows you the difference between the rough producer mix/demo mix, the final mix, and the mastered mix. |

Production Mixing Mastering with Waves looks interesting for sure, as it has a whole chapter just on dance music with a track to load into your DAW to do examples. Nice! |

I kind of disagree with all these books about "how to mix". None of the old house DJs ever had these books, they just had 303s and 909s, a four track and maybe a juno and that was it. If they could do it then anyone can.
I think people are letting themselves get too caught up in the "right" way to do things. In fact, I think that people should just read the stickies here and then go and ing do it. Practise will get you a lot further than a book. And you can spend the saved money on monitors;) |
