Should be there around 11 to catch your set!
Matthias
Thanks for letting me be a part of it Andrew :). Mat Zo did a hell of a job. I'd post a tracklisting of what I played if I could remember what got played and what didn't. I know my first track was my intro edit of Arnej - They Need Us and the last one was Ashley Wallbridge - Harmonies

Yup, Matt killed it for sure! :)

Did you record mine as well? or...

It was cool meeting ya man. I tried to get more of the crowd into it but I just didn't have any of the harder trance on me that I used to play. My style sounds best at 126 to 132 at the very most.

Then again, it was a good warm up set for what Andrew and Mat Zo brought to the table :) So I'm pleased on that account.

Yup, cool meeting you as well! Btw, I actually recorded my set today on a Tascam DR portable recorder.

FYI: I also like to play right around 128-130 bpm as well... actually, who even plays at 135+ anymore??? Hello, 2008 is calling and wants their uplifting trance back! Lol!

And I'm glad to hear that you were happy with your set... although, I would like to mention a couple things about your set/performance - your mixing was definitely "on point" and your song arrangement was fluid from track to track (although most of the songs were slightly dated) BUT there was something I noticed throughout your entire set that bothered me a little... you seemed very uptight and uncomfortable in the booth (I don't even remember a single smile from you)? Now, I don't expect every DJ to flail around like I do :D but I do expect a little enthusiasm for the choons they're throwing down... no matter what bpm you're playing at it's always very important to engage the crowd and give them subtle directions of what their reactions should be to what you're spinning for them at that moment...

Let's face it: if you don't seem enthused about what your playing it's hard to expect the same from the crowd.... just my observation.

FYI #2: The Austin crowd LOVES bangin' base! I'm sure you couldn't help noticed the crowd's reaction when Andrew went on... the set you played had some gorgeous progressive/house/trance tunes but would have "gelled better" with Austin's crowd in an earlier time slot.

Eh, it all has a time and place. The higher tempo tracks (if you aren't the headliner people came to see) tend to work more at raves due to the younger crowd and the likely stimulants.

You really have to know where I've come from in life. I try to keep a positive attitude, but there's alot of things in my past that's influenced who I am today. That and I've always been a wallflower when I'm sober, and 3 months ago I made the decision to quit all tobacco, alcohol, and recreational drug use. Since I was a pretty hardcore drinker in my day, especially when I played out. Sobriety at events is seriously taking some getting use to.

True, but in Paul van Dyk's case as he has proven in the past, if you're music is good enough, everyone will naturally want to dance regardless of what the DJ does or doesn't do.

I don't get to play out very much anymore. I've been doing this for 10 years but the last 4, I've played two or three gigs a year. *shrug* I gave it my best shot. If it wasn't for a few people on here that dig what I play I would have quit.

Honestly, my heart isn't in it like I use to be. I could write a novel guessing why, but it doesn't matter. People change, life changes, everything changes. So be it.

"3 months sober"... well everything I said about your set/performance! Dude, congrats on that! Spinning music for an hour or so in a club is a piece of cake compared to what you've already and continue to accomplish everyday of your "real life"! :)

did he wear a tuxedo to this gig ?

Compared to everything else I've accomplished, persevered through or attempted in my life, DJing has been the easiest.

John,
Matt has rocked the out of crowds for years now as the opener for the big wigs. Granted he had a bad call with his hard drive crashing and losing ALL his music he was still able to piece together a set. I could only imagine how the set would have been had that not happened to him but dont want to venture any further to the "what-ifs" of things...
