I'm not going to say that it doesn't happen, but those who do it for popularity, money, and gigs are going to quit making music after a few months.
I mean, we've all been there in the beginning... we sit for hours and hours and nothing pops up, and maybe the question of "why do this?" pops up in our heads. Unless the guy who does it for superficial reasons is a masochist, he's going to burn out real quick so I wouldn't worry about those guys.
I would like to say that being technical requires creativity too. You have to come up with a novel way to solve a novel problem.
Perhaps music is all creativity, both the obvious creative side and the technical side. So next time you have a technical problem, try looking at it that way, maybe looking at technical problems from a creative perspective will help. |
Nah not at all. I think that they often hook up with talented producers and then ride off their talent. This especially applies to DJs who go over into producing. I see it all the time where someone gets an "engineer" to do most of the actual creative work, and then releases it under their name thinking that they've made the track, or had some input. |

this is something i realized, that you can spend all the time in the world learning all the technical skills of production, but without creativity.. its pretty much useless. i noticed that ...more and more geeky kids are getting into production not so much for the music itself, but the synthesizers ...and hardware that comes along with creating it...which is cool and all...but without the creativity you can only go so far..
one. | creativity is all about finding some cool sounds and making a track out of them. |

It's hard to be creative these days, since almost everything has already been done at least twice. |
It may seem that way but there are infinate ways to create something. I'm sure years ago other people thought "everything has already been done at least twice" but new music is always being created & released. As someone else said you have to help your mind to think up new stuff.

This happens alot, more than I realised in the last few years. I know many people that do this also, while I dont agree totally with it, I think if you are to make a career out of it at least start to learn. You are then in control at least if you can make your own tracks. |

Not even close. But, if you truly believe that, then it's probably time to sell everything and stop trying. |

all of your minds are naturally creative, it is a matter of developing the ability to translate, or transform creativity and ideas into music. |

Indeed. Its only when something new comes along then you realise "oh why didnt I think of that". Same applies for chart music etc, theres always gonna be some new superstar with something kinda new to offer.
Sometimes it takes someone to do something drastic or different that creates something new and how well its recieved to make it happen. |

i seem to get down when i get writers block which isn't very often but when i get it it's fustrating. I agree with some of the previous posts with how alot of things have been done already it's just all about letting yourself go in the music you make. I think having a passion for it helps you think of some whacky ideas and they sound great and never been heard before. Originality is the key :D |

Lot of people here seem to be getting creativity mixed up with originality - they are two different things. |
