[House - 320 kbps] Track3 - Mixing advice?

Dabbling in house now...This was a fun mix to work on, but I've only made it up to the first breakdown.

I'm trying out different mixing techniques. This one is decent @ 50% speaker amp, but I can crank this all the way up without quality loss.

Mixed near unity with no master.

Tell me what you think!

I cant comment on the mix as listening on my laptop. The track itself is prob more prog house than house. Not sure if thats the style you was aiming for overall. The percs that create the groove sound nice, not sure on the reverbed clap though. Will repost again when I listen on some monitors.

I think cymbals need some equalization..

Ok some feedback:

- Too much verb on the claps / snares > Gate them
- Too much low on claps snares > high pass them
- Too much low mid in the mix ~500Hz low cut more that isn't supposed to be bass
- Overall level quite low > you can mix louder
- There is some kind of compression somewhere with a very short attack, eating away all transients from your mix > either longer attack or loose the compressor.

Looking forward to updated version.

Cool, will give the noted stuff a listen, thanks for the advice!

And yeah, I need to learn how to make an open clap that's not so reveerby. It's the bane of my drumkit.

-Edit- New mix is up using what you guys have said and some of the research I did on the interwebs.

I agree that the new sound is much cleaner, and some of the stuff was fairly counter intuitive.

Thanks again for the advice so far! :)

The mid to high freq's sound a touch to loud, def change the clap though to give it a more house feel. Maybe LP the main lead just a small amount to give it a warmer sound. I'd also lower the BPM, what is it right now?

Tempo was 135. Sounds better around 130-132.

Will listen through a bunch of house and figure out the clap...darn thing.

Cheers for the help ^^

Yeh getting some idea's from other house tracks will help. 135 is too fast, somewhere between 127-130 should be ok, although what ever sounds good can work if 130-132 is ok, there arent no rules. Good luck mate.

132 seems to be about perfect...I've re-uploaded this tune with the new tempo and mixing changes. 128kbps this time since that's what soundcloud's widget is anyway.

I wish I had better equipment to deal with the lower freq. range. =(

Here's an updated version that I've mastered myself for fun.

I'm more of the technical junkie I suppose...which explains my terrible arranging and songwriting :D

Needs a better mixdown IMO, more trancey to me than house tho!
